Resolution to Recycle 2018

Did you know that 40% of household waste can be Organically Recycled?waste compost

Look, we get it. Organic recycling? Composting? All this sounds like a dirty, unnecessary task. Why would we want to add to our never-ending chore lists? Well, if we are being completely honest, it IS necessary. Our landfills are filling up faster than ever. But now, there is an easy way to make organic recycling one of your New Year’s resolutions.

Randy’s Environmental Services now offers the Blue Bag Organics recycling program. It’s a done-for-you curbside composting service that takes the hassle (and the ickiness) out of the process.

On the save-the-planet scale, this one’s a no-brainer. Waste that could otherwise be composted is crushed under mountains of junk, organic matter decomposes slowly and without air. Two by-products of this anaerobic (airless) process are methane - a greenhouse gas - and nitrogen-heavy ammonia. One goes up into the air, the other leaches into our groundwater, and neither is good for the environment.

Composting diverts organics from the landfill, reducing all of the above, and transforms it into something not only usable but essential.organics

Simply put your recyclable, organic materials in the provided BPI-certified blue bag. When full, toss the bag in your regular trash bin for weekly pick-up. That’s it! We sort the bags out at our facility, and turn the recyclable organics into premium compost. And the best part? You can include ALL food scraps, including meat and dairy!

New Year’s resolution goal? Check.  Saving the planet? Check.

Here are some examples of recyclable organics:

  • Spoiled leftovers
  • Meat and bones
  • Vegetable & fruit scraps
  • Eggs & nut shells
  • Coffee grounds & filters
  • Tea leaves and tea bags (no staples)
  • Dairy products
  • Paper towels and napkins
  • Pizza boxes
  • BPI-certified products
