Building Inspection
Department Responsibilities
The Building Inspection Department is responsible for the application and enforcement of the building codes and related ordinances regulating construction, alterations and the use of buildings within the city. The department is also responsible for administering the property maintenance code and licensing of rental housing.
COVID-19 Response
A drop box will be located at the front door of City Hall to drop off and pick up permits and plans. Do not leave any payments. Payments can be made over the phone or by mail. If the project is residential and it is a deck, roof, remodel, plumbing or mechanical permit, please use the fillable permit application located on the permits and licensing page. Email the plans to permits@wayzata.org and put the address of the project in the subject line. Please call 952-404-5300 to schedule inspections and contact Jason Wagner at 952-404-5311 or jwagner@wayzata.org with specific questions related to your project.
Inspections
Inspections can be arranged by contacting the Building Inspection Department. Please allow 24 hours notice and indicate the type of inspection, address and permit number when calling. Read a list of inspections (PDF) that we typically perform.
