City of Wayzata Elections
Wayzata’s City Council includes a Mayor and four Council members. The mayor serves a four-year term of office and the Council members are elected at-large to serve overlapping four-year terms.
The following City Council seats will be on the Nov. 3, 2020 general election ballot for terms that begin in January 2021:
- Mayor (four-year term)
- Councilmember (four-year term)
- Councilmember (four-year term)
Filing Requirements
Candidate must be an eligible voter, 21 years of age upon assuming office, and a resident of Wayzata for at least 30 days before the Nov. 3 general election.
Filing Period
The filing period is Tues., July 28 through 5 p.m. Tues., Aug. 11. The deadline to withdraw is 5 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 13. To file for public office, complete an affidavit of candidacy and pay the $5 filing fee to the city clerk during the two-week filing period.

Campaign Finance Reports
- City Council candidates must complete Campaign Financial Reporting Forms (PDF)
- The initial report is due within 14 days after receiving contributions or making disbursements of more than $750.
- Subsequent reports are due 10 days before and 30 days after the general election and each year by Jan. 31 until a final report is filed.
- A final report is due when all assets are settled and all assets are disposed of in excess of $100.
