The Wayzata Police Department is currently hiring for a Police Officer! We’re looking for candidates who enjoy a small town, with big city opportunities! For our size, we have many opportunities for officers to grow and contribute.  Along with patrol duties, Wayzata PD has positions on the Lake Minnetonka S.W.A.T. Team, K-9 handlers, Search and Rescue, Investigations, and a School Resource Officer as well. 

We are accepting applications to fill an immediate opening and to establish an ongoing eligibility list for additional hiring processes anticipated in 2023.

General Duties

The Police Officer position is a full-time position that participates in law enforcement efforts that include police patrol duties, crime prevention, investigations, emergency response and public assistance.  To protect and promote public safety throughout the city through enforcement of all federal, state, and local laws; the preservation of public peace; the protection of life and property; the prevention of crime; and the detection and apprehension of violators of the law.  Assist in the judicial process by reporting the facts of investigations to the prosecuting attorneys and by testifying in court. The Police Officer works under the direction of the Police Sergeant and under the general direction of the Police Chief.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must be eligible for licensure under the rules and regulations of the Minnesota Board of Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) by December 11, 2022.
  • Must meet all state-mandated requirements and local policies such as a physical examination, psychological exam and criminal background check.
