The Wayzata Police Department is currently hiring a Police Officer to fill an immediate opening. We are looking for candidates who enjoy a small town feel, with big city opportunities! Along with patrol duties, Wayzata PD has positions on the Lake Minnetonka S.W.A.T. Team, K-9 handlers, Search and Rescue, Investigations, and a School Resource Officer.
General Duties
The Police Officer opening is a full-time position that participates in law enforcement efforts that include police patrol duties, crime prevention, investigations, emergency response, and public assistance. Police Officers protect and promote public safety throughout the city through enforcement of all federal, state, and local laws; preserve public peace; protect life and property; prevent crime; detect and apprehend violators of the law; as well as assist in the judicial process by reporting the facts of investigations to the prosecuting attorneys and by testifying in court. The Police Officer works under the direction of the Police Sergeant and under the general direction of the Police Chief.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Hold a license issued by or eligible to be licensed by the Minnesota Police Officers Standards and Training Board (P.O.S.T.) by the time of appointment.
- Must meet all state-mandated requirements and local policies such as a physical examination, psychological exam, and criminal background check.

The 2023 salary range is $32.30 to $43.52 per hour, depending on qualifications along with excellent benefits. An overview of the City’s benefits is included below. Application Process
- Application Deadline: Sunday, April 16th at 11:59 p.m.
- Interviews: Monday, May 1st (tentative). Please note, both first and final round interviews will be conducted (back-to-back) Monday, May 1st in person at Wayzata City Hall. Each interview will be scheduled for one hour; plan for about two and a half hours to allow for both interview rounds.
