The City of Wayzata is committed to maintaining continuity of City services while still protecting the health and well-being of our residents, businesses, and visitors by offering options to conduct city business remotely.

Payments
Payments for permits, licenses, utility bills, etc. can be left in the secure payment drop box in the City Hall parking lot or mailed to 600 Rice Street East Wayzata, MN 55391.
Sign up for Notifications
The best way to be updated in real-time about city business is to sign up for notifications. Visit www.wayzata.org/notifyme and sign up to receive text or email notifications for alerts, news updates, newsletters, calendar changes, and public meeting agendas.

Licenses and Permits
You can still apply for various licenses and permits by filling out the applications here. You can email completed applications to city@wayzata.org. To submit the permit fee, mail a check to Wayzata City Hall at 600 Rice Street East Wayzata, MN 55391 or use the secure drop box. Please confirm the amount with staff by email or by calling 952-404-5300.
Public Meeting Information
Pursuant to Minnesota Statute 13D.015 and until further notice, the Wayzata City Council, Planning Commission, and Housing and Redevelopment Authority meetings will be held by electronic means using the cloud-based audio and video conferencing platform Zoom.
Please watch the meeting either on Channel 8, WCTV, or through the City’s website at www.wayzata.org/wctv.
The instructions for providing public comments during or before the meeting are provided below. Members of the public are encouraged to provide comments via email before the meeting. This will help staff, Council Members, and Commissioners review the comments thoroughly, without any potential technological issues or complications.
Public comments may be submitted in any of these ways:
Before Meetings
- Email PublicComment@wayzata.org with a comment on a specific agenda item. Please indicate the item in the subject line of your email, and send it in at least two hours before the meeting.
- Mail comments to Wayzata City Hall at 600 Rice Street E Wayzata, MN 55391. Please post your mail at least three days before the meeting.
- Call staff with comments. Contact information for each department can be found at: www.wayzata.org/VirtualCityHall. Please call at least three hours before the meeting.
During Meetings
- Call in comments during the public hearing or comment portion of the meeting.
- Call the phone number listed on the meeting agenda for each meeting followed by # (pound). It will ask for a participant number. Just press # (pound).
- When you join the call, you will receive notice that your line muted. This is to reduce background noise from individual lines.
- During the public hearing, staff will announce that the public hearing is open and anyone that would like to comment should press *9 on their phone. This will allow staff to see who would like to comment.
- When the public hearing is opened and it is your turn to speak, staff will call on you by the last four digits of your phone number and will unmute your line so you can speak.
- When you are done speaking, please hang up so the line is free for others to join and comment. You may call in again if you wish to comment on another item.
- You can continue watching the public meeting at Channel 8, WCTV, or through the website at www.wayzata.org/wctv.
Development Applications
To apply for a development application, submit all of the required documents via email to either Emily Goellner at egoellner@wayzata.org or Nick Kieser at nkieser@wayzata.org. Staff will continue to review the development applications and communicate the potential Planning Commission and City Council meeting dates. To submit the development application fee and escrow, mail a check to Wayzata City Hall at 600 Rice Street East Wayzata, MN 55391. Please confirm the amount with staff before mailing.
Proposed Development Projects

Building Permits and Inspections
If the project is residential and it is a deck, roof, remodel, plumbing or mechanical permit, you can submit a permit application electronically. Please save the corresponding application to your computer, fill it out completely, and email the application and plans to permits@wayzata.org with the address of the project in the subject line. Once approved, we will call you for payment.
A drop box will be located at the front door of City Hall to drop off and pick up permits and plans. Do not leave any payments in this box. Payments can be made over the phone at 952-404-5300 or mailed to 600 Rice Street East Wayzata, MN 55391.

Fence/Sign/Outdoor Sidewalk Café Permit Applications
To apply for a fence, sign, or outdoor sidewalk café permit, please save the appropriate application to your computer, fill out the form, and send the application and any other required information or any questions to Nick Kieser at nkieser@wayzata.org. The review time for these applications will not be significantly affected. For the application fees required, send a check to Wayzata City Hall at 600 Rice Street East Wayzata, MN 55391. You can confirm the amount with staff before sending.
Zoning Letters
To request a Zoning Letter, submit the address and any additional information to Nick Kieser at nkieser@wayzata.org. Send the required Zoning Letter fee to Wayzata City Hall at 600 Rice Street East Wayzata, MN 55391. You can confirm the amount with staff before sending.

Firefighters are on call 24/7 to respond to emergencies. For emergencies, dial 911.

Drop Box Registration/Tab Renewals
Wayzata is offering drop off services for registration and tab renewals. Registrations and tab renewals may be dropped off or mailed in at any time and will be mailed back the next business day.
For tab renewals, please place the following in an envelope and put the envelope in the gray Utility Drop Box located directly across from the Motor Vehicle Department’s front door.
If you have your renewal notice from the state, please include:
- Renewal Notice/Prebill (Must include insurance info)
- Check payable to City of Wayzata (include phone number)
- If you are using a cash payment, you must leave the exact amount.
- Confirm mailing address is correct

Registration Renewals for Boats, Snowmobiles and All Terrain Vehicles
Drop-box options
If you have your renewal card from the state, please include:
- Renewal card
- Check payable to City of Wayzata (include phone number)
- Leave information in the Utility Drop Box or mail it to the City of Wayzata.
If you do not have your card issued by the state, you can complete the Authorization to Register DNR Registration form below. Follow the instructions on the form and leave the form and payment in the Utility Box.
Those wishing to make a police report or to speak with an officer (non-emergency), please call the Police Department at 952-404-5340. For emergency police response, dial 911.
Permit to Purchase a Firearm
Current Minnesota State Law requires a permit from the police agency in the community in which you live, to purchase a handgun. Submit a Permit to Purchase/Transfer Application Form (PDF) via email to wayzatapd@wayzata.org or mail to 600 Rice Street E Wayzata, MN 55391.
Police Reports
If you were involved in an incident or are requesting a public report, you will need to fill out the Request for Access to Data form (PDF)
If you are a lawyer representing a party involved in an incident, your request should be made on your letterhead and a release form signed by your client should be attached.
If you are an insurance company representing an involved party, your request should be made on your letterhead and should clearly identify who your insured party is.
All requests can be emailed to wayzatapd@wayzata.org or mailed to 600 Rice Street E Wayzata, MN 55391. The request form will be processed in a timely manner and the report will be released in compliance with Minnesota Data Practices Laws. Update Business After-Hours Contact
If your business is vacant during these times, please be sure you have current after-hours contact information on file with the Wayzata Police Department. If you need to update your contact information, complete the After Hours Update Form and email to wayzatapd@wayzata.org or mail to 600 Rice Street E Wayzata, MN 55391.
Dog Licenses
All dogs over the age of 6 months are required to be licensed through the City. Mail the completed Dog License Application Form (PDF) with payment and proof of rabies to 600 Rice Street E Wayzata, MN 55391. The fee is $25 per dog for 1 year or $40 per dog for a 2-year license. A current rabies certificate must be presented at the time of submission. Call 952-404-5340 with any questions.
Pay a Citation
To pay a Citation visit http://www.mncourts.gov/Pay-a-Fine.aspx or by call 651-281-3219.
Construction Updates
In March, the City began the Panoway Phase 1 Lake Street construction project. The goal of this project was to reconstruct Lake Street from Barry Avenue to Broadway Avenue to be more pedestrian and bicycle friendly; create a beautiful, multi-use Plaza Park near the lakefront, replace the existing surface parking lot at Lake Street and Broadway Avenue; and extend the Dakota Rail Regional Trail safely across Ferndale Road to Broadway Avenue. This project is now complete! A few final details will be completed in November, including installation of the shade structure and bathroom final touches.
Utility Billing
If you have questions about your utility bill please leave a message at 952-404-5363 and we will return your call as soon as possible.
You can also sign up to have your monthly utility bill automatically withdrawn from your checking or savings account. Complete and mail a Automatic Withdrawal Authorization Form (PDF) along with a voided check or deposit slip to the Public Works.

Report Maintenance Issues
