Body Worn Camera Policy

The Wayzata Police Department is preparing to start a body worn camera program in 2020. The Minnesota Legislature has provided guidelines for law enforcement agencies who are establishing a body worn camera program and how to develop a policy. Public input is one of the important factors in this process, so the City hosted two ways to submit feedback on the draft policy in October 2020.

Opportunities to provide feedback:

  1. Complete a brief online survey.
The City of Wayzata created a survey regarding the body worn camera policy using Polco. Polco is an innovative engagement platform where residents can directly provide input to your local government's decision-making process. You can begin giving input by downloading the Polco app for Android or iOS, or by visiting Polco and creating an account. This service is free and it only shares aggregated de-identified results to protect the privacy of your individual data.

The survey was completed on October 12, 2020. Click here to view the results of the survey.

  2. Participate in the October 6, 2020 Public Hearing.
At the October 6, 2020 City Council meeting, the body worn camera policy was discussed at a public hearing conducted virtually using the platform Zoom.
