Coronavirus Update

Coronavirus Update (COVID-19)

Wayzata is taking the COVID-19 pandemic extremely seriously and is proactively working to minimize public health risks. Wayzata’s Emergency Management Team is planning and partnering with public safety officials and supporting agencies to protect our community.

While the City is making many changes to its operations, including the closure of City facilities to the public, essential services including public safety and water and sewer utilities, will continue.

Learn more about City related updates, prevention, and how to stay informed at www.wayzata.org/coronavirus.

Panoway Construction Update

On April 16, both directions of Lake St between Minnetonka Ave and Broadway Ave were closed to motorists to allow for pavement removal and for the construction of underground utilities. Eastbound Lake St will be closed from Ferndale Road to Barry Ave for construction of the trail, the sidewalk and the curb along the south side of Lake St. Westbound Lake St remains open to motorists in this area.

Businesses on Lake St are accessible to pedestrians and parking is available at the locations shown on the map below. Detours will be in place through May 5.

Panoway Detour Map

We are closely monitoring state and federal guidance to ensure the safety of on-site workers and the community as the project progresses. We believe that moving forward at this time will lessen the impact on local businesses and allow work to occur at an accelerated pace. Additionally, moving forward will not jeopardize the City's financial ability to weather the coming recession. The City's contributions come from budget categories other than the general levy and the State and Three Rivers Park District are also helping fund the project.

Construction on Lake Street for phase one of Panoway on Wayzata Bay – an initiative to restore, protect and enhance Wayzata’s downtown lakefront – continued this week. This phase includes the reconstruction of Lake Street from Barry Avenue to Broadway Avenue to incorporate more pedestrian and bicycle-friendly features as well as the replacement of the existing surface lot with a plaza park near Lake Street and Broadway Avenue.

Please visit www.NavigateWayzata.com to sign up for regular construction updates.

More information is available on the Proposed Development Projects page of the City website: www.wayzata.org/640/Ventana-Apartments. • The City of Wayzata recognizes that small businesses are struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several state and federal programs have been established to assist. The best place to begin researching options is using this Summary Guide from  the MN Department of Employment and Economic Development. Their webpage summarizes the small business opportunities and what is the right fit for your business. Another great resources is the Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce website.
Wayzata Police Department Birthday Patrol

Police

Birthday Patrol

We know the stay at home order has been challenging, especially for the kids who have had to cancel their birthday parties in order to keep everyone safe. The Wayzata Police Department has teamed up with the Wayzata and Long Lake Fire Departments to make birthdays extra special for these kids by offer a Birthday Patrol to kids who live in Wayzata or Long Lake.

To request a Birthday Patrol, parents or caregivers, should send an email to wayzatapd@wayzata.org. We ask for at least a 24-hour advance notice so we can make sure a police car and fire truck have plenty of time to roll by your home with the lights flashing to wish your child a very happy birthday. Grab your camera as you will want to capture the moment. We look forward to waving at all the birthday kids (6 feet away of course)!

Crime Alert

The Wayzata Police Department continues to respond to theft from vehicle reports.  The latest thefts have occurred in daytime hours around businesses.  As a reminder, do not leave valuables in your vehicle (or keys) and lock your doors.  These are often crimes of opportunity, so the easier you make it for the thief, the more likely you’ll become a victim.  As always, look out for your neighbors and report any suspicious activity by dialing 911.

Avoid Scams

Avoid scams related to the federal government's response to the Coronavirus. No one will call or text you for your personal or financial information. See more prevention tips and learn more at www.fcc.gov/covid-scams.

Clean Up After Your Dog

Please remember that dog owners cannot allow their dogs to damage or foul any lawn, garden or property of another person or on public property. Pet owners are responsible for cleaning up and disposing of their animal’s waste. Owners are encouraged to get in the habit of carrying plastic bags to clean up after their pet.

Public Works

Fire hydrant flushing begins April 19

The Wayzata Utility Department will be flushing water mains and fire hydrants throughout the City between Sunday, April 19 and Thursday, April 30, weather permitting. Utility crews will flush hydrants in the evening between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.. Flushing fire hydrants at night minimizes the inconvenience of discolored water issues that this process may cause for residents and businesses. Additionally, lower traffic volumes at night provide a safer environment for both motorists and for City staff working in the road.

Fire hydrants are flushed to remove any particulate matter that may have built up in the water system over the year and to ensure all fire hydrants connected to the water system are operating properly for use by the Fire Department. Because the flushing process may temporarily cause your water to become discolored, residents are advised to be observant while washing clothes until after the flushing has been completed. If discolored water is present, run cold water faucets only until the water runs clear. A list and map of areas shown below is a general guideline as to where we will be flushing each evening. For more information, contact the Wayzata Public Works Department at 952-404-5363.

2020 Construction Projects
Several projects are being planned in and around Wayzata, for 2020.  A summary of the larger activities follows:

  • 2020 Sanitary Sewer Lining - The City of Wayzata is planning to perform maintenance on several sewer mains throughout the City. The maintenance includes the lining of the existing sewer main with a Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) liner.  Sewer relining is a quick and economical process in lieu of replacing pipes by open excavation. This process prevents major traffic disruptions and health hazards from potential exposure to raw sewage.  The 2020 project proposes to line approximately 8,800 feet of sewer main in the following areas:  Harmony Circle, Rosswood Lane, Ridgeview Drive, Ridgeview Lane, Margaret Circle, Shadyway Road, Barry Avenue North, and Gardner Street (east of Barry Avenue).
  • 2020 Bituminous Seal Coat - A map of the streets proposed to be seal coated in 2020 can be found below.  Tree trimming along these streets will continue through the spring months.
