Absentee Voting Begins June 26

Elections in 2020 include the Aug. 11 State Primary and the Nov. 3 General Election. Absentee or early voting is allowed 46 days prior to the election. Absentee voting for the Aug. 11 Primary Election will begin Fri., June 26. People can vote at City Hall, Mon. through Thurs., 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m and Fri., 7 to 11 a.m. If you prefer to get a ballot by mail, visit www.mnvotes.sos.state.mn.us/ABRegistration/ABRegistrationStep1.aspx.

To minimize direct contact with others due to COVID-19, all Minnesota voters are encouraged to vote early by mail (absentee) for the 2020 Elections.

McCormick's Beachside Opens at Wayzata Beach

If you are planning to spend the day at Wayzata Beach, bike the Dakota Trail or walk around Wayzata, plan a stop at the McCormick’s Beachside concession stand. Located at the beach, the concession stand is open Tues. - Sun., 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. weather dependent, and is serving chili-cheese onion dogs, hamburgers, lobster salad rolls with bib lettuce, fresh-squeezed lemonade and ice-cream treats.

A message from the City of Wayzata


Now more than ever the City of Wayzata understands the community's need to enjoy the benefits of nature. As the weather heats up this weekend and you head outdoors, we want to remind you to practice social distancing and to wear a face mask so we can all do our part to slow the spread of the Coronavirus.  


Community Development

  • The review schedule for several Development Applications has been affected by COVID-19. To track the anticipated review schedule for a particular project, please visit the Proposed Development Projects page of the City website at https://www.wayzata.org/286/Proposed-Development-Projects.
  • A development application has been submitted for approval of a lakeshore setback variance to construct a new single-family residence at 578 Harrington Road. 
  • A development application has been submitted for approval of an impervious surface variance for a single-family residence at 128 Broadway Ave N from the property owner Chamberlain Capital LLC. This variance request is to construct a new detached garage in the rear of the property and to reconfigure the driveway to the garage.
  • A development application has been submitted for approval of an impervious surface variance and rear setback variance for a new single-family residence at 225 Manitoba Ave S. The new proposed single-family home is proposed to have detached garage in the rear of the property which will require a rear setback variance. These applications are scheduled to be on the July 6 Planning Commission meeting.
  • A demolition permit has been issued for 460 Peavey Rd.
  • The next Planning Commission meeting will be on July 6 and will be held virtually due to COVID-19. Members of the public who wish to provide comments on any agenda items can find instructions at www.wayzata.org/virtualpublicmeetings. Construction Projects

Panoway on Wayzata Bay (Phase 1) – Lake Street (Broadway Ave to Ferndale Rd) 

In the last couple of weeks, construction crews have completed installing underground utilities throughout the project and are constructing new street curbs and pavement, and sidewalks along the north side of Lake Street. Construction of the new Plaza Park features continues as does construction of the new street lighting system. Sidewalk, trail, street lights and Plaza Park construction will continue through the coming weeks.

Westbound Lake Street is open between Broadway Ave and Walker Ave; eastbound will remain closed to allow construction crews access to the new Plaza Park.

Lake Street between Walker Ave and Barry Ave will remained closed through the end of July. Businesses on Lake Street are accessible to and there is ample parking available on adjacent side streets and at the City’s Mill Street Parking Ramp.

Eastbound Lake Street, between Ferndale Rd and Barry Ave remains closed to motorists while westbound is open to motorists. Construction on sidewalks and the trail will continue during the next few weeks.

A Note on Public Safety

There are a lot of safety hazards on the Wayzata Panoway construction site. There is fencing around the construction site and the public is not permitted to enter the site. The posted detour routes for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are the safest routes around the construction zone. Walking or biking along or on the railroad corridor is prohibited and is considered to be trespassing. Please use the designated routes instead. Sanitary Sewer Lining

The City’s contractor, SAK Construction, recently installed CIPP liners inside of the sanitary sewer mains in the following areas: Harmony Circle, Rosswood Ln, Ridgeview Dr, Ridgeview Ln, Margaret Circle, Shadyway Rd, Barry Ave N, and Gardner St (east of Barry Ave). This project has been completed, except for one segment of pipe on Ridgeview Dr, which the contractor will return to complete later this summer.


Bituminous Sealcoat 

A map of the streets proposed to be sealcoated in 2020 is below. Crack sealing occurred in May and sealcoating is scheduled to begin July 6. With good weather, sealcoating should be complete by July 10.

Virtual Public Meetings Continue


Virtual Public Meetings

Until further notice, the Wayzata City Council, Planning Commission, and Housing and Redevelopment Authority meetings will be held by electronic means using the cloud-based audio and video conferencing platform Zoom. Though the meetings will be conducted remotely, you can still watch and provide public comments.
