Major COVID-19 Restrictions Start Tonight

On Wednesday night, Governor Walz announced major and important changes to COVID-19 restrictions. These changes directly affect restaurants, gyms, weddings, social gatherings and more. Below are the key changes you need to be aware of.


Starting Tonight, November 20 at 11:59 p.m.
  • Bars and restaurants must pause dine-in service
  • All gyms and other wellness facilities must close to the public
  • All social gatherings, indoor or outdoor are restricted to just immediate households
  • All organized sports must pause

Important Update:
Light Up the Lake Celebration 

Due to the new COVID-19 restrictions announced Wednesday night and the safety of the Wayzata community a top priority, the Light Up the Lake Committee has decided to make the hard decision to cancel the event on November 27th. However, we encourage you to come safely visit Lake Street on Saturday November 28th for Small Businesses Saturday and throughout the holiday season to enjoy beautiful and enhanced lighting, get your holiday shopping done at our local retailers and grab some food to take home from our delicious local restaurants. Distance socially and support locally! We look forward to gathering again when we can. #WayzataTogether

New Changes to DMV Hours

Starting Monday November 23, in order to serve customers in the most efficient way, the DMV will temporarily be reducing and modifying hours to 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. Monday – Thursday. Friday Hours will remain the same, with 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during this time!

WPD Applications Due Today

Apply now to be a full-time Police Officer for the City of Wayzata! Qualified candidates must be P.O.S.T. eligible by November 20, 2020, have a valid driver’s license and good driving record at the time of appointment, and meet all state-mandated requirements and local policies such as a physical examination, psychological exam and criminal background check. The 2021 salary range is $28.57 to $40.12 per hour, depending on qualifications along with excellent benefits.

Election Day Results

Based on official results, congratulations to Mayor-elect Johanna McCarthy, Council Member-elect Cathy Iverson, and Council Member Alex Plechash! The voter turnout this year was 92%, reflecting an increase from the election prior. Council officially certified the results on November 13.

Make a Donation this Holiday Season

The Wayzata Police Department will be spreading holiday cheer by collecting toys, books and other gifts to fill their squad cars to donate to the Toys for Tots campaign. This annual collection will kick off this Monday, November 16.

Help spread positivity, during a tough holiday season, and drop off new unwrapped toy donations for kids and teens at the Wayzata Police Department and Wayzata City Hall!

Energy Action Team Plan to Reduce Energy Consumption Under Review

The City has worked with Xcel Energy’s Partners in Energy program to write an Energy Action Plan (EAP). The EAP outlines the ways that the City can reduce energy consumption, increase energy efficiency, improve on energy education, and implement renewable energy strategies for every stakeholder in Wayzata. It was reviewed by the Energy and Environment Committee on October 27 and again on November 17. It will be reviewed by the City Council in December.

Plan Denied for 200 Lake Street East (TCF Building) 

The Planning Commission recommended denial of the development application for 200 Lake Street East (formerly TCF headquarters) at the public hearing on November 16. This item is tentatively scheduled for review by the City Council on December 15

Update on Lake Street Recovery

In order to comply with Executive Orders related to COVID-19 for the State of Minnesota, plans will be adapted or paused for the Hennepin County recovery zone assistance for Lake Street businesses. The City and Forecast Public Art had been devising strategies that make people feel comfortable and safe visiting the Lake Street area in fall and winter.

Resident Snow Removal Responsibilities

Winter is upon us! Please review these two important reminders of snow removal responsibilities that Wayzata residents and property owners have.

  • Snow can only be placed adjacent to your own property, when clearing your driveway. It cannot be pushed across the street and it may not be deposited down the street. Please share this with anyone that may performing snow removal duties for your property.

  • Section 305 of the Wayzata City Code details additional requirements for the cleaning of sidewalks. Details included in link below.

Panoway on Wayzata Bay (Phase 1) – Lake Street 

During the weeks of November 16 and November 23, contractors will be completing the assembly and painting of the restroom and shade structures in the Lake Street Plaza Park. Because of cold temperatures, the contractors will construct a temporary tent to enclose and heat the work area. The work area will temporarily occupy some of the parking stalls along the south side of Lake Street between Broadway Avenue and Walker Avenue, however Lake Street will remain open to traffic during this time. The restroom and shade structures are expected to be completed before the Thanksgiving holiday.


Klapprich Park Hockey Rink & Dog Park Repairs

The City has hired a contractor to make repairs to the hockey rink boards this fall. The repairs are expected to be completed during early-November. During this time, the dog park will be closed.
