Mediacom & Channel 11

Channel 11 has been down on cable due to a dispute and negotiations with Mediacom. Unfortunately, there is nothing the City or Mediacom can do about it until they reach an agreement. We know this is not ideal and frustrating as it is a popular channel. Until there is a resolution, we recommend watching Kare11 News online.  The City is open to other cable providers should they approach us in the future.

Racially Restrictive Covenants in Wayzata & Plymouth Neighborhoods

Discriminatory covenants, meaning agreements by lease, deed, or other legal contract, have been used to keep people of color from buying houses in certain Minnesota neighborhoods, including some of our own. The result is a century of segregated communities. Together, residents that own property impacted by these restrictions have the ability to acknowledge this discrimination, legally discharge these covenants, and help to build a foundation for more inclusive communities.

Join us next week for the first Just Deeds event, virtually, on Thursday May 13th at 6 p.m., to hear a brief summary of the history and legacy of these practices and learn about the Just Deeds Coalition, which helps property owners remove the racial covenants from their property deeds and educates the community about this hidden history.

randys/republic services

Randy's is Now Republic Services

Randy’s Environmental Services was acquired by Republic Services, an industry leader in U.S. recycling and non-hazardous solid waste disposal with existing operations in the Twin Cities. Through the agreement, Republic Services acquired all of the assets of Randy’s, including contracts with cities to provide recycling and waste services. Trash and recycling collection in the City of Wayzata continues to be business as usual, and residents should not expect any changes at this time.

The gas main replacement is expected to begin in April, and be completed in June. The City’s 2021 Bituminous Mill & Overlay project will commence shortly thereafter. You can find more information about CenterPoint Energy’s gas main replacement project here.
