Revitalization Grant Fund

The SBA formally announced the opening of applications for the Restaurant Revitalization Grant Fund as part of the American Rescue Plan. This is a great fit for any bar or restaurant. 

Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL)

The SBA is doing a round 2 of the EIDL and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)

State Mask Mandate Lifted 

Governor Walz lifted the statewide mask mandate following the CDC announcement that vaccinated individuals no longer need to wear a mask. The state continues to recommend unvaccinated Minnesotans mask up to protect themselves and their neighbors. The City will be following the CDC and State’s guidelines in order to keep our staff and public safe.

Dry Sampling at Wine & Spirits

Stop by Wayzata Wine & Spirits Wednesday May 26th to meet Dick Leinenkugel as he hands out cans to customers in the store. The Leinenkugel family brewery was founded in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin by Jacob Leinenkugel. Today, sixth generation family members are involved in the company, helping to bring the same family-inspired recipes that Jacob poured his heart and soul into to consumers across the country.

Sign Up for Summer Activities

Wayzata Community Education has launched a new partnership with the City of Wayzata’s Parks and Trails Board. This partnership allows Wayzata Community Education to provide additional active programs for youth and adults that promote fitness and wellness, as well as some that focus on enrichment, skill mastery and social engagement. Many activities include a multigenerational

component encouraging families to participate together!

Development Application Review for Rice Street Townhomes Scheduled 

A development application has been submitted for the development of the Rice Street Townhomes at 520, 524, 530, and 534 Rice Street East. The current application replaces a previous application submittal that was withdrawn. The proposed project would construct four total townhome units in two separate buildings. A Planned Unit Development (PUD) and Development Agreement was approved for these properties in 2006. The applicant proposes to construct the buildings in a similar manner as the approved plans with amendments. The public hearing at the Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 7, at 6:30 pm.

Development Application Submitted for 900 Shady Lane East

A development application has been submitted for a new single-family residence at 900 Shady Lane East. The proposed project requires a side-yard setback variance, Shoreland setback variance, and a Conditional Use Permit to locate a portion of the structure in the Flood Fringe District. This property received similar approvals for a single-family residence in 2019, but that project was never constructed. The proposed residence includes an updated layout and design. The public hearing at the Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 7, at 6:30 pm.

Proposed Design Standard Updates Will Be Presented on June 1

At the City Council meeting on June 1, staff will be presenting the proposed updates to Chapter 909 of City Code, which includes the City’s Design Standards.

The public can provide comments prior to the meeting at publiccomment@wayzata.org or during the City Council meeting.

The Wayzata Parks and Trails Board is excited to present the preliminary concept designs for new playground equipment and surfacing at Wayzata Beach!


The new concept would replace the almost 15-year old playground, as it has reached its useful life, and should be replaced for improved safety.

Possible Construction Impacts This Month

Gas Main Pipe Replacements

  • CenterPoint Energy will be replacing gas main pipes along the streets indicated in the map to the left until the end of May. 

  • Due to the gas main replacements, Barry Avenue has been closed to southbound motorists until the completion of this project this month.

New Sidewalks Near Hollybrook Road and Circle A Drive

Concrete sidewalks will be constructed along the north side of Hollybrook Road, and along the west side of Circle A Drive. This project will also include the installation of storm sewer pipes and structures and the relocation of some fire hydrants along the north side of Hollybrook Road, to make room for the sidewalk. Sidewalk construction has begun on Circle A Drive, and underground utility work has begun on Hollybrook Road.

MnDOT Highway 12 Maintenance near CR 101 and Gleason Lake Road

MnDOT Crews will by laying an aggregate layer to get a little more life out of the road. This will require the road to be reduced to two lanes between Central Ave/County Road 101 and Gleason Lake Road from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly June 1-15. Crews will have to come back at the end of June to put down stripes during off-peak hours.
