Planning Commission Meeting Monday July 19th Canceled

City Council Meeting Tuesday July 20th 7:00 p.m.

Parks & Trails Board Meeting Wednesday July 21st 6:00 p.m.

In Person Public Meetings Return

Due to expiration of the State of Emergency on July 1 by Gov. Tim Walz, the City is now complying with the Open Meeting Law in which in-person public meetings will resume effective with the July 7 Planning Commission meeting. The public will be allowed to participate in the meetings in-person or remotely. This means the public is invited back to City Hall, if they feel comfortable doing so, to attend and/or give public comment.

A remote option will still be available for Planning Commission and City Council Meetings. The remote details can be found in the same location as before within the calendar posting or meeting agenda on Wayzata.org. The City is working to implement and install upgrades to the Council Chambers to create a permanent and smooth hybrid meeting option. In the meantime, please note that the remote option in place is temporary and will be improved greatly when the new equipment is installed.

Deadline Extended to July 23rd to Apply for the Planning Commission

There are two open seats on the Planning Commission! The Planning Commission is an advisory board that reviews and studies land use and development applications, and makes recommendations to the City Council. The Planning Commission also holds public hearings on all developments including applications for zoning amendments, variances, conditional use permits and subdivisions.

The application deadline has been extended
to July 23rd.

State of the City & Night to Unite Luncheons Will Be Combined

Wayzata’s Night to Unite kicks off at 11:30 a.m. on August 3rd with the annual Night to Unite Luncheon at the Wayzata Country Club. This year, the State of the City will also be included in the program, replacing its own separate luncheon. Wayzata Interim Police Chief, Marc Schultz, will provide an inside look at the department and highlight the strange, challenging and unique last two years. In addition, Mayor Mouton will speak on the ever evolving State of the City and introduce Wayzata’s new City Council. The Jim Fish Award will be presented by the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition.

Listen to live music by Wayzata Bay at Depot Park every Wednesday through July 28th. Next week, bring a chair and listen to Anthony Shore (Elvis), from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m!

Episode Five: Panoway- A Look
Back on Phase I

Panoway on Wayzata Bay is an initiative to restore, protect and enhance a treasured asset for our community and broader region: Wayzata’s downtown lakefront. The multi-phase project will transform the public shoreline on Lake Minnetonka, enhancing the lakefront experience and preserving it for years to come.

Submit Your Questions for the Mayor

Starting this month, there will be a new addition to the Mayor Minutes podcast called “Ask the Mayor”. This will be dedicated time, at the end of each episode, where the Mayor will answer questions the community has submitted the month prior. The Mayor will respond to each question either on air or directly.

Whether it’s swapping out old light bulbs for new energy-efficient LEDs, upgrading your showerhead, installing a programmable thermostat, or weather stripping your doors and checking for air leaks, the Home Energy Squad will do it all during their visit.

Community Development Update

Community Open House to Discuss the Section Foreman House

Join us on Wednesday, July 28th at 5:00 p.m. at the Section Foreman House at 738 Lake Street East to discuss the next phase of the Panoway project which includes the renovation of the Section Foreman House and to revitalize the surrounding area. A Request for Proposal for architectural design services is scheduled to be issued in August, 2021 and the goal of the meeting will be to receive community input to guide the project team and future designers.

In addition to the open house, stakeholders are also encouraged to take a survey regarding the Section Foreman House.

Development Application Submitted for 200 Lake St E

A development application has been submitted from the applicant Lake West Development, LLC for the construction of two separate, three-story buildings containing office and restaurant uses within the first story and 36 multiple-family dwellings units within the second and third stories of the property located at 200 East Lake Street. The proposed plans require a Planned Unit Development Concept Plan review.

The public hearing is scheduled for the Planning Commission meeting on Monday,
August 2nd at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Development Application Submitted for 163 Wayzata Blvd W

A development application has been submitted from the applicant TMSC of Wayzata, LLC for a renovation of and addition to the existing building at 163 Wayzata Blvd (formerly operated as Meridian Manor) for a senior living and memory care facility. The proposed plans require a Planned Unit Development Amendment and Design Review.

The public hearing is scheduled for the Planning Commission meeting on Monday,
August 2nd at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Development Application Submitted for 253 Lake Street East

A development application has been submitted from the applicant Berry Inc. for a Conditional Use Permit for parking fee-in-lieu for three parking stalls at 253 Lake Street East. The applicant proposes to include a new fitness room that removes three parking stalls in the existing building that is under construction.

August 2nd at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Public Works Update

Circle A Drive & Hollybrook Road Sidewalks

The construction of a sidewalk along Circle A Drive is now complete. On Hollybrook Road, utility work, curbs, sidewalks and pavement patching are finished. Turf restoration, irrigation repairs, sign installation and street striping work are in progress. This project is expected to be finished in late July.

Street Resurfacing

Select streets will be resurfaced this month. Streets to be milled and re-paved with bituminous asphalt include:

Barry Avenue South
Benton Avenue
Benton Alley
Indian Mound Street (west of Walker Avenue)
Minnetonka Avenue South
Shady Lane
Shadyway Road

Construction is expected to begin soon and will be completed by the end of September. Disruptions to traffic on any given street will be limited to a 2-3-week period.
