Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is Spreading in Wayzata Trees

The City's consulting arborist has discovered that EAB has quickly spread across the City. Over the coming months, the Parks Department will begin implementation of a plan for the removal of infested Ash trees and treatment of healthy Ash trees.

Welcome to Wayzata's First Search & Rescue Dog, Loki!

The Wayzata Police Department is implementing a new K9 Program! Loki is the only on duty search and rescue dog with a police department in the state of Minnesota and is specifically trained in tracking and trailing for a specific live scent.

An Update on Accessory Dwelling Units

Staff, with the guidance of the Zoning Task Force and Planning Commission, are recommending Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on a restricted basis in the R-1 through R-3A zoning districts. ADUs are also known as guest houses, granny flats, and secondary suites.

Watch for Your Property Valuation Notice

This month, Wayzata property owners will receive a Hennepin County 2023 Notice of Valuation and Classification indicating property values that will be used as a basis for taxes due in 2023.

Community Development Update


City Zoning Code Updates

Parks Rezoning Public Hearing
Currently, all of Wayzata’s park properties and city-owned open space are zoned for residential use, commercial use, or Planned Unit Development. To protect and preserve these properties from any future development, Wayzata is proposing to rezone all of the properties to Parks and Open Space. The public hearing date will likely be in April.

Proposals Under Review

445 Bovey Road
A development application has been submitted by the applicant 688 Bryant LLC for a variance to construct a driveway. The variance would allow the driveway to encroach upon a 10-foot side yard setback. The Planning Commission approved the variance at their February 28 meeting, and the City Council vote was tied on March 22 (2-2). The application has been tabled until the Council’s April 19 meeting.

150 Broadway Ave S
A development application has been submitted by the applicant Langdon View, LLC for a project at 150 Broadway Ave S, the former Sathre-Bergquist office. The applicant’s Planned Unit Development Concept Plan was initially denied by the Planning Commission on March 21. More information to come.

1022 Wayzata Blvd E

A development application has been submitted for a Caribou Cabin/Urban Wok to replace the vacant gas station building at 1022 Wayzata Blvd E. The Planning Commission denied the plan on March 21.

301 Peavey Lane

The Blake School’s Highcroft campus is scheduled to close in the summer of 2023, so that the school may consolidate operations elsewhere. A development application has been submitted by the applicant BohLand Homes for the redevelopment of the property. The proposal is for a cul-de-sac with 15 single-family homes. The initial public hearing with the Planning Commission is scheduled for April 4.

Wayzata Beach Club (200 Lake Street)
A development application has been submitted by the applicant Lake West Development for a project at 200 Lake Street, the former TCF Bank corporate headquarters. The initial public hearing for the proposal took place at the February 7 meeting, with the Planning Commission recommending denial of the proposal. The City Council hearing is scheduled for April 5.

Shoreland Ordinance Updates

Updates to the Shoreland Ordinance were approved by the Planning Commission on March 21 and the first reading of the updated ordinance will be at the April 5 City Council meeting.

Construction Projects Planned for 2022

Wayzata construction projects in 2022 will include Bituminous Seal-Coat (a thin protective wearing surface that is applied to a pavement) on some streets, sewer main maintenance and some milled and re-paved streets.

Seasonal Road Restrictions Began March 16

The City of Wayzata enacted spring road restrictions on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 12:01 A.M. Spring road restrictions will remain in effect until the Minnesota Department of Transportation announces that they have expired.

Potholes Will Be Patched Soon in Wayzata City Streets

Various roads running through Wayzata are owned by the city, county or the state, and it’s important to contact the appropriate maintenance agency if you have a concern about potholes or other road conditions. Please refer to the list below to determine who to contact.
