Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay

To thank those Minnesotans who worked on the frontlines during the COVID-19 peacetime emergency, Gov. Tim Walz signed Frontline Worker Payments into law April 29, 2022, enabling those workers to apply for Frontline Worker Pay.

Wayzata Beach Playground is Almost Finished!

The City's contractor is making steady progress on completion of the final touches for the new playground at the Wayzata Beach. These items include a new water feature, new sand and a poured-in-place walkway around the equipment.  

The playground is anticipated to be open for use the week of June 20th.  We appreciate the public’s patience as we finalize this work!

Platform Tennis Community Meeting 

Join us in person for a community meeting on Tuesday, June 15th from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Wayzata City Hall (600 Rice St E) to discuss the proposed platform tennis location! At this time, the Parks and Trails Board is proposing to construct two platform tennis courts at the Wayzata West Middle School site (149 Barry Ave N) along with potential future amenities as shown on the left.

Wayzata Art Experience

Kick off the summer with the lakeside festival, Wayzata Art Experience, June 25th and 26th.Taking place in downtown Wayzata on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, this two day event, hosted by the Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce, will feature 100 juried artists, food trucks, free sailboat rides, floating art, and live music.

Fish with Wayzata's First Responders!

On Sunday August 28th, sign your family up to fish with Wayzata's first responders from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. 

There will be some refreshments and hopefully beautiful weather! This is a free and family focused event that will be hosted at Wayzata Sailing. Limited spots available!

Parent or guardian must attend with kids. Ages 5-16.

Community Development Update

Design Development Underway

Stakeholders for the Section Foreman House restoration and reuse, including the City and resident Design Committee, are currently working with architecture firm Cushing Terrell to envision the future of the house as a lakefront learning center. The project is in the design development phase.

Wayzata Boulevard Corridor Study Consultant Approved

An RFP was released for a Corridor Study that will shape the future of Wayzata Boulevard. City Council approved contracts with consultants SRF Consulting, Inc and Van Meter Williams Pollack at their June 7th meeting.

City Zoning Code Updates

Parks Rezoning Public Hearing
Currently, all of Wayzata’s park properties and city-owned open space are zoned for residential use, commercial use, or Planned Unit Development. To protect and preserve these properties from any future development, Wayzata is proposing to rezone all of the properties to Parks and Open Space. The second reading of the proposed ordinance will take place at the June 7th Council meeting.
 
Zoning Code Updates
Changes to the city’s residential, commercial, and institutional zoning districts received initial approval from the City Council on June 7th. The second reading of the ordinance will take place on June 21st. Notable changes include overall streamlining of the zoning code, revisions to the R-5 district, and language to allow accessory dwelling units in the city.

Proposals Under Review

712 Lake St – Parking Variance and Conditional Use Permits for Restaurant

A development application has been submitted for parking-related approvals at 712 Lake St, the former Fitspace building. Applicant 714 E Lake St, LLC is proposing to retrofit the building to house a restaurant called “Paco & Lime”. 

The Planning Commission recommended approval of the application on May 16th.


Development Proposal for 900 Wayzata Blvd (Wells Fargo)
A development application has been submitted for 900 Wayzata Blvd, currently home to a Wells Fargo bank. The project team is proposing a 70-unit apartment building, 9 attached townhomes, a 34,000 square foot office building, and a 5,500 square foot Wells Fargo bank. The majority of parking will be underground. Major requests include subdividing the parcel into three (north, west, and east), re-zoning two of the new parcels, height, setback, and impervious surface variances for the proposed residential building, and a conditional use permit for a drive-through at the proposed bank. A neighborhood meeting was held April 21st.
 
The first public hearing on this application will be held at the June 20th Planning Commission meeting. We encourage interested people to review the project webpage and submit public comments ahead of time to publiccomment@wayzata.org.

Public Works Update

Sanitary sewer rehabilitation will begin next week

This maintenance includes the lining of the existing sewer main with a Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) liner.  Sewer lining is a quick and economical process compared to replacing pipes by open excavation. Hydro-Klean Solutions Group is expected to begin work next week on June 13th.
