The Quality of Life Community Survey Results are IN!

This year, the City of Wayzata hired the Morris Leatherman Company to conduct a community wide quality of life survey to ensure that we are building the community our residents want and providing a high level of service.

The results were gathered though a telephone survey of 400 randomly selected residents of the City of Wayzata. Survey responses were gathered by professional interviewers across the community between March 14th and 30th, 2022. The average interview took 20 minutes.

The project team is proposing a 67-unit apartment building, 9 attached townhomes, a 34,000 square foot office building, and a 5,500 square foot Wells Fargo bank. The majority of parking will be underground. The City Council voted 4-1 to approve the proposal at their July 19 meeting.

Proposals Under Review

830 Lake St (Baja Haus) – Patio Application
A development application has been submitted for Baja Haus, a restaurant located in the Village Shoppes at 830 Lake St E. Baja Haus is seeking to create a yearly patio that occupies four parking spaces outside the restaurant. The previous patio was permitted under the City’s pandemic relief policies.

The Planning Commission recommended approval at their July 18 meeting.

1022 Wayzata Boulevard – Revised Application
A revised development application has been submitted at 1022 Wayzata Blvd, the former gas station next to Edina Realty. The applicant is proposing to combine the northern and southern parcels and pursue a rezoning/Comprehensive Plan Amendment in order to support a future retail tenant. The previous proposal for this property, for a Caribou Cabin/Urban Wok, was denied earlier this year.

The Planning Commission recommended approval at the July 18 meeting.

344 Ferndale Road North – Subdivision
A development application has been submitted at 344 Ferndale Road North, currently the site of one single family home. The owners propose to split the existing lot into two, keep their current house, and build a new home on the second parcel. A detached garage would be demolished.

The Planning Commission will discuss the application at their August 1st meeting.

Verizon Wireless Installing Small-Cell Equipment

Verizon Wireless will be installing small-cell wireless antenna equipment on several City-owned street light poles. The installation of the first of five antennas has begun in the southeast corner of Lake Street East & Minnetonka Avenue South. The additional antenna equipment will extend approximately 10 feet higher than the street light pole.
