The Wayzata City Council annually appoints individuals to volunteer service positions on advisory commission, authority and boards through an open appointments process. Each commission, authority or board deals with a variety of issues and topics of concern to the city! 

If you are interested in exploring the different topics covered by each board or commission, click here. 

Applications are due November 10.

Volunteer for Pull It Day

No gardening experience needed! The annual Pull It Day cleanup happens each fall and helps to prepare the City gardens for winter. Volunteers are needed from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22.

Important Upcoming Election Dates


October 18  |  Last day for voters to pre-register to vote for the State General Election.
 
November 5  |  Open Saturday for absentee voting (from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.)
 
November 7  |  In-person absentee voting for the State General closes at 5 p.m.

November 8  |  State General Election Day.  The polls will be open from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Join in the Halloween fun at the annual Wayzata Boo Bash Dash, a spooktacular race in downtown Wayzata, on October 29! Run or walk a certified 10k, 5k, Competitive Lake Street Mile and fun run with friends. Costumes encouraged!

The History of the Wayzata Muni

On Thursday November 17 at 7:30 p.m., the Wayzata Historical Society will host a program about the history of the Muni in the Community Room at City Hall. 


There is no registration required for this event and all are welcome to attend. The program will explore the fascinating story of how the Muni originally came to be. 



Community Development 

Zoning Study Update

An updated Tree Preservation Ordinance will be considered at the October 4 City Council meeting. Updates to the City’s Zoning Code regarding mixed use buildings will be considered at the October 18 City Council meeting. Both were approved by the Planning Commission this month.

Proposals Under Review

341 Ramsey Road 

A revised development application has been submitted at 341 Ramsey Road for an attached garage requiring variances for rear yard setback, hardcover, and lot coverage.

The Planning Commission recommended denial of the application by a 4-3 vote at their August 15 meeting. The City Council considered the application on October 4 and directed staff to prepare a Resolution approving the application for consideration at the October 18 meeting.


NEW – 201 Lake Street – Westway Condominiums
Applicant Lowell Zitzloff and family, on behalf of building owner Westway LLC, are proposing a Planned Unit Development Concept Plan to build a three-story, mixed-use building at 201 Lake Street East. The site is currently home to an office building that primarily houses Coldwell Banker Burnet. The application requests also include a height variance and a conditional use permit.

The Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on October 17.

Public Works 

Ongoing Projects 

2022 Street Rehabilitation
The City’s contractor, Bituminous Roadways, is making great progress on this year’s street project.  Last week, the following streets were milled and re-paved:
  • Barry Avenue North
  • Chicago Avenue North
  • Gardner Street East
  • Minnetonka Avenue North
  • Park Street East
  • Walker Avenue North
New concrete curbs and paving were installed on Central Avenue South and on Lake Street East in the last two weeks. Repairs to irrigation systems and driveways, and turf restoration are scheduled to occur during the week of October 17.

Construction is expected to be complete by the end of October.

Verizon Wireless Installing Small-Cell Equipment
Verizon Wireless will be installing small-cell wireless antenna equipment on several City-owned street light poles on Lake Street. Contact the City’s Engineering Department at 952-404-5371 with questions related to the Verizon Wireless equipment.
