Light Up the Lake Parade of Lights

Light Up the Lake Celebration is Tonight!

Join us on Lake Street tonight, November 25th, from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. for holiday refreshments, horse drawn wagon rides, reindeer, holiday music, a tree lighting ceremony and the spectacular parade of lights with local fire departments. It will be another magical holiday evening in Wayzata, we can't wait to see you there!


This year, the annual Candy Cane Hunt the day of will be for children up to 5 years old only. 


Please note that for the safety of all attending the event, the street will be closed starting at 2:30 p.m. from Broadway to Barry. The street is planned to reopen tonight,  Friday night, after the event.

Wayzata PD Toys for Tots Drive

The season of giving is upon us! The Wayzata PD is an official Toys for Tots location again this year in support of their 75th anniversary. Please consider dropping off new, unwrapped toys from now until Dec. 9th at 12:00 p.m.

As a kickoff, they will be collecting toy donations during our Light Up the Lake parade and tree lighting festivities tonight, November 25th. Alternatively, our office is open for drop-off Mon-Thurs 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Fridays 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Our hearts are full when we are serving, so we thank you for helping us spread joy this holiday season!

Free Carriage Rides on Lake Street

This year, during select weekends in December, Lake Street will have free carriage rides from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Take a ride on December 8, 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17!

Pickup locations include: Barry Avenue & Lake Street, Broadway Avenue & Lake Street, and Superior Avenue & Lake Street.

The free carriage rides are brought to you by local businesses in Wayzata.

2023 Budget & Property Tax Levy 

The City Council will be voting on the final 2023 Budget and Property Tax Levy at the December 6th meeting at 7:00 p.m. If you would like to provide comments in person you can attend the meeting to speak at the public hearing.

Changes to Metro Transit Services in Wayzata 

To protect the reliability of services amid a continued operator shortage, Metro Transit will be making service reductions around the region.


Effective December 3 in Wayzata:

  • Service on 645 operating between Wayzata and Mound will be suspended.

  • Weekday service will be peak period only.  

  • Saturday and Sunday service on Route 645 between Wayzata and Minneapolis will be reduced from hourly service to service every two hours.  

  • As a potential alternative service, current weekday, off-peak 645 riders in Wayzata are directed to use Transit Link, a dial-a-ride service.

New Mayor Minutes Video Podcast Episode

An "over the fence" conversation with former Mayor Ken Willcox years ago led Wayzata resident, Jeff Buchanan, to apply to be a City volunteer. Jeff then served two years on the Planning Commission and ultimately ran for a seat on the Wayzata City Council. Tune in to hear Council Member Jeff Buchanan reflect on his years of service and discuss initiatives he is most passionate about including environmental focuses.

Enter the “Mayor for a Day” Essay Contest

What would our cities look like if kids were in charge? The League of Minnesota Cities is holding its annual essay contest to find out!

  • Open to students who are in 4th - 6th grades this school year
  • Entries can be emailed, submitted online, or postmarked by Dec. 12.
  • Three winners will be chosen to receive $100 prizes and will have their essays published in the League’s Minnesota Cities magazine.
  • Winners will be notified in early January.

Winter Parking Reminders

If the snowfall is two or more inches before
8 p.m
., the snow parking regulations go into
effect at 2 a.m. the next morning. At that time,
snow plowing will begin and any vehicles parked
on unplowed city streets will be tagged and/or
towed.

If an accumulation of two inches or more
occurs after 8 p.m.
, the snow parking ban will
go into effect the following morning at 2 a.m. (24 hours later).

If there is an accumulation of snow after 8 p.m., plowing may occur. Cars parked on city streets will not be tagged, but cars may be plowed in.

Community Development 

Proposals Under Review

NEW – 247 Central Ave S – Addition
The homeowner at 247 Central Ave S have applied for a front yard setback variance in order to construct a front porch. The project will be considered at the December 5 Planning Commission meeting.
 
NEW – 507 Rice St E – Addition
The homeowners at 507 Rice St E have applied for a variance to build additional living space on the north side of their home. Due to the location of the home, the proposed addition requires a front yard setback variance. The project will be considered at the December 5 Planning Commission meeting.

201 Lake Street

Applicant Lowell Zitzloff and family, on behalf of building owner Westway LLC, are proposing a Planned Unit Development Concept Plan to build a three-story, mixed-use building at 201 Lake Street East. The site is currently home to an office building that primarily houses Coldwell Banker Burnet. The application requests also include a height variance and a conditional use permit. 

The Planning Commission recommended approval of the Concept Plan at their October 17 meeting and the City Council will consider it at their December 6 meeting.
