Along with patrol duties, Wayzata PD has positions on the Lake Minnetonka S.W.A.T. Team, K-9 handlers, Search and Rescue, Investigations, and a School Resource Officer as well.

Comcast High Speed Internet Coming to Wayzata with Completion in 2023

Comcast announced this week that it will be extending its network to make its full suite of services available to more than 2,300 homes and businesses in Wayzata, including residential broadband speeds faster than 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) and business speeds up to 100 Gbps.
The project is on track to start connecting homes and businesses to high-speed Internet by late 2022, with completion of the network throughout Wayzata expected in 2023.

Preparation of Ice Rinks to Begin Next Week

With the upcoming drop in temperatures, Public Works will begin preparing the City’s ice rinks! Klapprich field will likely be flooded late next week, and Margaret Circle Park the week of December 19. 

Please note that the ice will not be completely frozen until there are consistent freezing day-time temperatures. Once flooded and frozen, the Parks Department still has work to do to prepare the rinks for public use.

"Stay off the ice" signs will be posted until the rinks are officially opened and the community will be notified when they are ready to use. Thank you for your patience!


Save the Date for Family Skate Day

The Wayzata Parks & Trails Board plans to host a Family Skate Day on January 8 at Klapprich Park! Come skate from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. This event will feature music and
refreshments to purchase! This is event is free, all are welcome!


Donate Unused Skates

Do you have unused skates? Wayzata would love to let new skaters borrow skates for free. Help us start that collection! Please place any unused skates in the bin outside of the Klapprich Park warming house.

Free Carriage Rides on Lake Street

This year, during select weekends in December, Lake Street will have free carriage rides from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Take a ride on December 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17!

Pickup locations include: Barry Avenue & Lake Street, Broadway Avenue & Lake Street, and Superior Avenue & Lake Street.

The free carriage rides are brought to you by local businesses in Wayzata.

7 Tips to Protect Packages from Porch Pirates!

'Tis the season of online holiday shopping! Deliveries will be more frequent, which makes this time of a year a prime time for package thefts to occur. Here are 7 tips to protect your packages from porch pirates:

1. Ship items to a secure locker
2. Track your packages so you know when they will arrive
3. Have a trustworthy neighbor pick up the package
4. Require a signature upon delivery
5. Invest in security cameras
6. Ship to the store and pick up at your convenience
7. Request to have packages dropped at a backdoor

Be a good neighbor by staying alert. As always, if you see suspicious activity, call 911!

Snow Removal Reminders

Snow from privately owned property may only be placed adjacent to your own property, when clearing your driveway. It cannot be pushed across the street and it may not be deposited down the street. Please pass this on to anyone that may performing snow removal duties for your property. Additionally, please clear your sidwalk within the first 24 hours after the snow stops falling.

Winter Parking Reminders

If the snowfall is two or more inches before
8 p.m
., the snow parking regulations go into
effect at 2 a.m. the next morning. At that time,
snow plowing will begin and any vehicles parked
on unplowed city streets will be tagged and/or
towed.

If an accumulation of two inches or more
occurs after 8 p.m.
, the snow parking ban will
go into effect the following morning at 2 a.m. (24 hours later).

If there is an accumulation of snow after 8 p.m., plowing may occur. Cars parked on city streets will not be tagged, but cars may be plowed in.

Proposals Under Review

NEW – 247 Central Ave S – Addition
The homeowner at 247 Central Ave S have applied for a front yard setback variance in order to construct a front porch. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the project at their December 5 meeting. The City Council will consider the application in January.
 
NEW – 507 Rice St E – Addition
The homeowners at 507 Rice St E have applied for a variance to build additional living space on the north side of their home. Due to the location of the home, the proposed addition requires a front yard setback variance. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the project at their December 5 meeting. The City Council will consider the application in January.

201 Lake Street - Concept Approved

Applicant Lowell Zitzloff and family, on behalf of building owner Westway LLC, are proposing a Planned Unit Development Concept Plan to build a three-story, mixed-use building at 201 Lake Street East. The site is currently home to an office building that primarily houses Coldwell Banker Burnet. The application requests also include a height variance and a conditional use permit. 

The City Council approved the Concept Plan at their December 6 meeting. The project will return to the Planning Commission and City Council in a few months with final plans for approval.
