What did the City accomplish in 2022?

Even though Wayzata is a small and charming lakeside community, our operations and services that we provide are robust and they continue to grow and operate at a high level in order to meet the ever changing needs of our residents, businesses, and visitors.

Our goal for 2023 is to continue this positive momentum, both within the organization and throughout the community, by fostering a positive work environment and striving for excellence in the public services we provide!

Check out the video on the left for a snapshot of what the City accomplished in 2022.

Minnesota Ice Warning

With temperatures fluctuating this month, we wanted to remind everyone about the importance of ice safety.

  • Ice is NEVER 100% safe
  • Ice that has thawed and been refrozen is only ½ as strong as new ice.
  • Safety is key – wear a floatation device with a personal locator beacon attached, and be prepared with an emergency whistle, rope, nails and or ice picks for traction

Please Take This Survey

Hennepin County is updating the All-Hazard Mitigation Plan, as required by the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. Local jurisdictions are required to update the plan every five years to remain eligible for pre-disaster and post-disaster mitigation grant programs.

Community involvement and feedback are vital to the success of the plan. Please complete this survey to help Hennepin County better understand your hazard concerns which can include things like flooding, storms, high winds, wildfires and more.

Proposals Under Review

Cantissimo Senior Living – Final Stage of Approvals

Pillar Homes, on behalf of owner Care Cliff LLC, has applied for a Planned Unit Development General Plan at 15419/15429 Wayzata Blvd and 1405 Holdridge Terrace. Cantissimo Senior Living is a proposed memory care facility with up to 40 residents. The project also includes requests for a variance, rezoning, and design deviations. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the application at their January 23 meeting.

The City Council will discuss the application at their February 21 meeting.

Preliminary Environmental Review – 565 Ferndale Road West Subdivision

Applicant Whitten Associates has submitted a development application to subdivide the 11.87-acre property into four lots. This application has not been deemed complete and is not yet on the schedule for Planning Commission and City Council review. The initial portion of the City’s review process includes an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW), which evaluates potential impacts of development projects. This application has been added to this newsletter in order to notify interested residents that a public comment period is open for the EAW until March 9. This is not the only opportunity to comment on the proposal, just the first. Plans are likely to change between now and future Planning Commission/City Council review. The City’s website, linked below, has more information and a copy of the EAW available for download.

C-1 Zoning Text Amendment

Applicant William Cooley is proposing a zoning code text amendment for the C-1 – Office and Limited Commercial District. The text amendment limits height and increases setbacks of future buildings in the C-1 District that are near certain residential properties. The Planning Commission will consider the proposal at their March 6 meeting.

Wayzata Country Club Parking Lot

The Wayzata Country Club has submitted a proposal to improve their parking lot, which requires an impervious surface variance. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the application at their February 6 meeting.

1030 Lake St E – Subdivision

Applicant Black Dog Homes has applied for a subdivision at 1030 Lake St E. The parcel currently has one home on it and would be divided into three separate properties for three future homes. The Planning Commission recommended denial of the application at their January 23 meeting.

The City Council will discuss the application at their February 21 meeting.

For info on all development projects, please visit the development project webpage.
