american elm tree and bur oak tree

Congratulations to the Tree Champion Contest Winners

First place is awarded to.... Bob and Elaine Ambrose! Their American Elm measures 69” in diameter with an 80’ canopy. This tree has survived wave after wave of Dutch Elm Disease which killed most of our American Elm trees in Wayzata during the 70’s and 80’s. It has been beautifully maintained with thoughtful pruning, a supportive cabling system, and disease treatment.

Second place is awarded to... Marisa Erickson! Marisa submitted a Bur Oak that measures 49” in diameter with an 80’ canopy.

Build a Secondary Living Space

Last summer, the City Council approved broad zoning code updates that included the ability for most single-family homeowners to create ADUs, or accessory dwelling units. ADUs are secondary living spaces within, attached to, or separate from the main home. They are also known as guest houses, in-law apartments, or secondary suites. ADUs can provide independent living opportunities for family members of all ages, generate rental income for property owners, and provide more flexibility for changing living situations over time.

If you are interested in creating an ADU on your property please contact Valerie Quarles at vquarles@wayzata.org.
