4th of July Events in WayzataFlying Pancake Breakfast Guests will “catch ‘em if they can” pancakes tossed from the grill at the historic Wayzata Depot. Breakfast will be from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and is $9.00 (cash or checks only) at the door. USA Veterans eat free. A short ceremony and flag-raising, including a rifle salute, will be conducted. Hosted by the National Society of Children of the American Revolution - Lake Minnetonka Society Broadway Kiddie Parade & Mini Olympics The Broadway Kiddie Parade will take place at 10:00 a.m. on the corner of Park Street and Broadway Avenue. Kids need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian in order to participate. Please do not bring any battery-operated or motorized vehicles to the event. The Wayzata Fire Department will once again sponsor the annual Mini Olympics for kids at the Wayzata West Middle School football field. The events, starting at 12:30 p.m., include a softball throw, running races and the running broad jump. Events for children four and under include running races and penny hunting.

Klapprich Park Community MeetingOn Tuesday, July 11, the Wayzata Parks & Trails Board is holding a community meeting from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. to share information about the comprehensive Klapprich Park Plan and to receive community input on high-level concept plans for various improvements to Klapprich Park. Potential improvements include new sidewalks and trails and updates to the playground and warming house. This meeting will take place at Klapprich Park.

Register by July 14 to Host a Night to Unite Block Party on August 1The day will kick off with a luncheon at the Wayzata Country Club. This panel discussion, Unite for Safety, will highlight Wayzata Police Chief Marc Schultz and other local officials. Later that evening, Wayzata Police, Fire, City staff, and elected officials will visit neighborhood parties throughout Wayzata and Long Lake. Along with the police cars and fire trucks, there will be trinkets for kids and a crime prevention message at each stop. Interested in hosting a gathering in your neighborhood? Ferndale Road Sidewalk ImprovementsThe City of Wayzata is currently soliciting bids for the addition of a concrete sidewalk to the east side of Ferndale Road, between Wayzata Boulevard and Lake Street. The project will include the addition of storm sewer and concrete curbs and mill and overlay of the bituminous pavement on Ferndale Road. Construction is expected to begin in late July or early August and will be completed in October.

Wells Fargo Construction UpdateOver the last three years, Mithun Enterprises has worked collaboratively with the City of Wayzata to undertake redevelopment of the existing Wells Fargo Bank Building at 900 Wayzata Blvd E. After an extensive public review process, the construction will begin this summer. The approved plans include a residential building, commercial office space, and a redesigned Wells Fargo branch. Lakewalk Construction Begins Next WeekPanoway Lakewalk construction is set to begin next week! The project will be a 1,200 foot-long lakewalk that will stretch along restored shoreline of Lake Minnetonka from the Depot docks to the Broadway docks. Did you know that Wayzata Has Summer Water Restrictions?With the recent heat and lack of rain, it is important to be mindful of your water use. The City of Wayzata has an Ordinance restricting water use between May 1 and September 30, annually. The restrictions are as follows: A. Water supplied by the City of Wayzata may not be used to water lawns, sod or seeded areas between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily. B. Properties with even-numbered addresses may only use water supplied by the City of Wayzata outdoors on even-numbered calendar days. Properties with odd-numbered addresses may only use water supplied by the City of Wayzata outdoors on odd-numbered calendar days. C. Homeowners associations and apartment complexes with multiple addresses that provide a common outdoor water irrigation system may only use water supplied by the City of Wayzata outdoors every other day. The westbound turn lane, to go southbound on Superior Boulevard, will be closed. Eastbound lanes will not be affected. The lane closure is necessary for Saint Croix Sewer & Water to install a new water service for the home being built at 126 Benton Avenue North. 200 Lake St/TCF Building Redevelopment Applicant Lake West Development has submitted a new application to redevelop the property at 200 Lake St, otherwise known as the former TCF building. The proposed project would include a single mixed-use building with 30 residential units, 28,240 sq. ft. of ground-floor commercial space, and underground parking. The Planning Commission recommended the denial of the application at their May 1 meeting. The City Council denied the application at their June 21 meeting. 1030 Lake St 2-Lot SubdivisionApplicant Black Dog Homes has applied for a subdivision of the 1.12-acre property at 1030 Lake St into two lots. They had previously applied for a 3-lot subdivision and were denied. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the application at their June 26 meeting. The City Council will consider it at their July 18 meeting. 138 Huntington Ave S Variances Applicant’s representative Black Dog Homes, on behalf of homeowner John Blank, has submitted a development application to replace the current driveway and support other ongoing home updates at 138 Huntington Ave S. The project requires an impervious surface variance and parking area setback variance. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the application at their June 26 meeting. 374 Ferndale Rd W Variances Applicant’s representative Outdoor Perfection, on behalf of owners Mike and Julie Speetzen, has submitted an impervious surface variance application in order to construct a new backyard patio at 374 Ferndale Rd W. The patio would include a pool. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the application the application at their June 26 meeting.
