Panoway Sand-Breaking CelebrationAfter 10+ years of passion, planning, and community engagement, construction on the 1,200-foot-long Panoway Lakewalk has finally begun! This week, we gathered with key stakeholders to celebrate this major milestone and took time to reflect on the passion, time, and commitment that drove the project. The Wayzata lakefront has always been a place to relax, refresh and connect. Panoway builds upon this legacy by strengthening the connection between downtown Wayzata and Lake Minnetonka, expanding access to the beloved area while investing in what makes it special. We look forward to celebrating with the broader community upon project completion! Stay up to date on construction: Wayzata.org/PanowayLakewalkConstruction

Safety Improvements to Wayzata BoulevardFour Key Takeaways were developed from the initial draft of the Wayzata Boulevard Corridor Study. The categories for each takeaway were: - Land Use & Development
- Safety Improvements
- Transportation & Mobility
- Public Realm
Key Takeaway #2 : Safety Improvements Out of all the potential actions to come out of the Corridor Study, short-term safety improvements are a high priority for the community and can be implemented in the shortest timeframe. These actions are meant to improve safety along the corridor for all travelers: walkers, bikers, drivers, etc. - Updated signage can lessen confusion for some users, alleviating safety and access issues that crop up in predictable locations.
- Corridor lighting at the pedestrian scale can increase visibility.
- Upgrade signal timing at certain intersections to allow more time for pedestrian crossing.
- Upgrade existing crosswalks to improve ADA compliance.
- Consider “no turn on red” at certain intersections.
Other major safety improvements, like road reconfiguration, new sidewalks, curb extensions, and new planted medians, are planned for the long term but may be dependent on funding sources and cooperation with Hennepin County. Public Comments The official comment period is wrapping up this week. Please send in any comments you have and staff will work to integrate them into the final plan. The City Council will approve the plan at a future Council meeting. Click here to learn more and read the full summary
