James J. Hill Days - This Weekend!On September 8, 9 & 10, James J. Hill Days is coming to the shores of Lake Minnetonka in Wayzata. Activities include fireworks, live music, a carnival, food trucks, Craft Beer Festival, an open-air street market, dachshund races, a parade and so much more. For more information visit jamesjhilldays.com. The Wayzata Area Chamber is requesting donations for this year's fireworks display. Click here to donate. The fireworks will take place on September 9 from 8:45 - 9:00 p.m.

Pancake BreakfastStop by from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on September 17 for pancakes, and french toast and enter a raffle with the Wayzata Fire Department! There is no cost for food, however, at-will donations to the Fire Relief Association will be accepted. Raffle includes Minnesota Twins Tickets, a birthday party at the fire station, and more!

EV Ride & Drive Event on September 21Drive electric vehicles, scooters, and bikes! The Energy & Environment Committee is hosting an electric vehicle Ride & Drive event on September 21 from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. There will be vehicles to drive from local dealerships, electric bikes, and electric scooters!
This will be a great opportunity to both test drive and learn about EV vehicles. A program will take place at 6:00 p.m. Refreshments provided - all are welcome!

Sign Up to Participate in a Plant Pulling Party on Saturday, October 14Get to know your neighbors while volunteering! On Saturday, October 14, the Public Works Department needs your help getting City gardens ready for winter. The morning will kick off at the Panoway Plaza with check-in and refreshments. From there, volunteers will be dispersed to gardens in groups. This is a family-friendly volunteering opportunity! Sign up as a family, a group of neighbors, as a couple, or on your own! This will be the perfect setting to meet other generous residents and participate in the nurturing of Wayzata’s landscaping. Volunteers are needed from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Click here to sign up

Upcoming 2024 Budget MeetingsAll events below will take place at Wayzata City Hall (600 Rice St. E) and are open to the public. Agenda packets with budget information will be available for public viewing a few days prior to the meeting on Wayzata.org. September 19 - City Council Meeting Adoption of the preliminary tax levy, budgets, and fee schedule. October 17 - City Council Workshop Review of the updated Capital Improvement Plan. December 5 - City Council Meeting Adoption of final tax levy, budgets, and Capital Improvement Plan.

The City is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator! This volunteer role identifies volunteers and provides direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer and collaborative functions within the City of Wayzata. The City is looking for a driven and committed individual to advance the volunteer programs and experience in Wayzata. Save the Date for the New City Showcase Event on October 9This event, formerly known as Public Safety Day, will take place outside at Wayzata City Hall from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. on October 9. State Law Changes Impact School Resource OfficersDue to recent changes in state law, and subsequent legal opinions, the Wayzata Police Department will suspend placing a school resource officer within the Wayzata West Middle School during the coming school year. The suspension will remain in place until the law is changed. In the meantime, the Wayzata Police Department will continue to work with the Wayzata School District to provide services to the Wayzata West Middle School related to safety and security. During the suspension, the officer previously assigned will be reassigned to the Patrol Division. Click here to read more

Zero Tolerance Policy in School Zones
As a reminder, there is a zero-tolerance policy for speeding in school zones and crosswalks, and for school bus stop arm violations. Our police officers will be monitoring these zones, so please be mindful.

Solar Panels Installed at Public WorksLast week, after years of planning and consideration, solar panels were installed on the roof of Public Works. This solar project was originally incorporated in the Energy Action Plan in November 2020, which was created by the Energy & Environment committee, and the project was approved by Council in July of this year. This renewable energy project is a big step toward sustainability in Wayzata. Additional solar systems will be installed on the Muni, City Hall, Fire Station, and Library this fall.

Public Works Updates
Ferndale Road Closure Starts September 11The City of Wayzata has awarded a contract to New Look Contracting, Inc. for the construction of a sidewalk on the east side of Ferndale Road, between Wayzata Boulevard and Lake Street. The project will include the addition of storm sewer and concrete curbs and mill and overlay of the pavement on Ferndale Road. New Look Contracting Inc. is scheduled to begin work on Monday, September 11, and is expected to be completed in October. During construction, Ferndale Road will be closed to through traffic but will remain accessible to residents. Questions or concerns about this project can be directed to Jen Schumann in the City’s Engineering Department at 952-404-5371 or jschumann@wayzata.org. 2023 Sidewalk Repair ProjectThe City of Wayzata has hired Q3 Contracting Inc. to make repairs to several sidewalks and pedestrian curb ramps. Repairs will be done in September and October in the following general locations: - East end of Hollybrook Road
- Circle A Drive, near Superior Boulevard
- Mill Street East
- Miscellaneous locations along Lake Street East, where sidewalks have been damaged and trip hazards have developed.

Community DevelopmentWayzata Boulevard Corridor Study The City Council will consider the final draft of the Corridor Study at their September 19 workshop, ahead of final approval in October. Click here to learn more Zoning Study UpdateThe Planning Commission reviewed updates to the City’s fence code and recommended the proposed code for approval with changes. The proposed changes will go in front of the City Council on September 19. Click here to learn more 308 Hampton St S – AdditionThe homeowner at 308 Hampton St S is proposing to add an attached garage with additional living space to the rear of their home, remove their existing detached garage, and improve their existing driveway. The project requires an impervious surface variance and side yard setback variance. The Planning Commission will consider the proposal at their September 18 meeting. Approved - 201 Lake St / Westway Condominiums Applicant Lowell Zitzloff and family, representing building owner Westway LLC, are proposing to replace the existing building at 201 Lake Street East with a new, 106,000 square foot (three-story) mixed-use building comprised of 38 residential condominium units, 3 commercial condominium units, 3 flex condominium units, and underground parking. The project was approved by the City Council at their September 5 meeting. The Council will review final agreements related to the project in the fall.
