Broadway Docks Closed

The Broadway Docks are now closed to boaters and are in the process of being removed. The new dock system will be in place by Memorial Day of 2024.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Hennepin County will hold a household hazardous waste community collection event for Wayzata residents on September 22 and 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Hennepin County Public Works Orono Shop (3880 Shoreline Dr.)

Applications Due Next Week

The City is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator! This volunteer role identifies volunteers and provides direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer and collaborative functions within the City of Wayzata. The City is looking for a driven and committed individual to advance the volunteer programs and experience in Wayzata.

Join Us for Tulip Planting on October 7 

The Parks & Trails Board needs help planting tulips in the Post Office Pocket Park at 8:30 a.m.

Over 800 bulbs have been ordered to plant to refresh the tulips planted years ago. The last time tulip/daffodils were planted was in 2019 so the park needs a refresh for a spectacular Spring Season. Refreshments will be served. Bring your friends and family!

Save the Date for the New City Showcase Event on October 9

This event, formerly known as Public Safety Day, will take place outside at Wayzata City Hall from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. on October 9. Join us for the usual fun of fire demonstrations, a bounce house, hot dogs, face painting, and K9 demonstrations.

New activities this year will include:

  • Cookies and cider from Wayzata Bar & Grill
  • Giveaways 
  • Raffle for a ride in a fire truck or squad car
  • Touch - a - Truck including fire trucks, squad cars, public works equipment, and more!

Sign Up to Participate in a Plant Pulling Party on Saturday, October 14

Get to know your neighbors while volunteering! The Public Works Department needs your help getting City gardens ready for winter. The morning will kick off at the Panoway Plaza with check-in and refreshments. From there, volunteers will be dispersed to gardens in groups.

This is a family-friendly volunteering opportunity! Sign up as a family, a group of neighbors, as a couple, or on your own! This will be the perfect setting to meet other generous residents and participate in the nurturing of Wayzata’s landscaping.

Volunteers are needed from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

All events below will take place at Wayzata City Hall (600 Rice St. E) and are open to the public. Agenda packets with budget information will be available for public viewing a few days prior to the meeting on Wayzata.org.

October 24 - City Council Workshop

Review of the updated Capital Improvement Plan.

December 5 - City Council Meeting

Adoption of final tax levy, budgets, and Capital Improvement Plan.

State Law Changes Impact School Resource Officers

Due to recent changes in state law, and subsequent legal opinions, the Wayzata Police Department will suspend placing a school resource officer within the Wayzata West Middle School during the coming school year.

The suspension will remain in place until the law is changed. In the meantime, the Wayzata Police Department will continue to work with the Wayzata School District to provide services to the Wayzata West Middle School related to safety and security. During the suspension, the officer previously assigned will be reassigned to the Patrol Division.

Public Works Updates

Ferndale Road Sidewalk Improvements 

New Look Contracting, Inc. continues work on the construction of a concrete sidewalk on the east side of Ferndale Road, between Wayzata Boulevard and Lake Street.  The project is progressing well with the completion of utility work (storm sewer and hydrant replacement), this week. Next week, the contractor will begin curb removal and preparation for the new sidewalk. Concrete work is tentatively scheduled for the first week of October. The project is expected to be completed by the end of October. During construction, Ferndale Road will be closed to through-traffic, but will remain accessible to residents.

2023 Sidewalk Repair Project

The City of Wayzata has hired Q3 Contracting Inc. to make repairs to several sidewalks and pedestrian curb ramps. Repairs will be done in September and October in the following general locations:

  • East end of Hollybrook Road
  • Circle A Drive, near Superior Boulevard 
  • Mill Street East
  • Miscellaneous locations along Lake Street East, where sidewalks have been damaged and trip hazards have developed.

Wayzata Boulevard Corridor Study 

The City Council reviewed the final draft of the Corridor Study at their September 19 workshop, ahead of final approval in October.

Zoning Study Update

The Planning Commission reviewed updates to the City’s fence code and recommended the proposed code for approval with changes. The first reading of the proposed changes was approved by the City Council at their September 19 meeting.

NEW – 223 Gleason Road North – Addition 

The homeowners at 223 Gleason Road are proposing to add an attached garage and screened porch to their existing home. The project requires an impervious surface variance and rear yard setback variance. The Planning Commission will consider the proposal at the October 2 meeting. 

NEW – 1903 Wayzata Blvd E – Subdivision 

Property owner CWE is proposing to subdivide the existing office complex at 1903/1905/1907 Wayzata Blvd for the purpose of selling one building separately from the other two. No physical changes are proposed. The Planning Commission will consider the proposal at the October 2 meeting. 

308 Hampton St S – Addition

The homeowner at 308 Hampton St S is proposing to add an attached garage with additional living space to the rear of their home, remove their existing detached garage, and improve their existing driveway. The project requires an impervious surface variance and side yard setback variance. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the proposal at their September 18 meeting. The City Council will consider it at their October 24 meeting.
