City Calendar For Next Week

Parks & Trails Board Meeting  |  Tuesday, December 12  |  6:00 p.m.

The Energy & Environment Committee will host an open house on Wednesday, December 13  from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Muni. All are welcome and appetizers will be provided! This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in talking more about Wayzata's sustainability initiatives.

Donate to Toys for Tots

Toy donations will be accepted at City Hall and the PD through the middle of December. Once donations are collected, police from as many as 20 departments will load their cruisers with donated gifts and then lights blazing and sirens blaring, they will parade to the KARE 11 Toys for Tots drop-off site in time for the 5:00 p.m. newscast.

Christmas Tree Pickup Starts Jan. 2

Public Works will start curbside pickup of Christmas trees and spruce tops the week of January 2. Before placing your tree at the curb, please remove all nails, screws, wires, tree stands, tinsel, plastic bags, glass, and metal decorations. Wreaths are not accepted.

Photo Contest Ends December 15

Get your cameras ready, because the annual Picture Wayzata Photo Contest ends next month!

The Picture Wayzata Photography Contest is a way to showcase our community. Whether it’s people at play, a treasured park, or a new perspective on all Wayzata has to offer, we want to see it. Everyone is encouraged to participate-- residents, businesses, and students.

To submit your photos, visit wayzata.org/photocontest. 

Deadline to submit photos is December 15.

Wayzata Chilly Open - Get Tickets Now!

The largest, most well-known and unusual golf tournament held on a frozen lake will return to Wayzata Bay on February 10, 2024. Since 1984, thousands of hearty Minnesotans head to Lake Minnetonka for this unique frozen golf event to celebrate the “chilly” winter season. There will be four 9-hole courses carved on the ice and more.

Zero Tolerance for School Bus Arm Violations

The Wayzata Police Department is dedicated to making sure your children are safe when getting on and off their school bus. 

We have zero tolerance when it comes to violations! Drivers, when school buses display red flashing lights and/or an extended stop arm, you must stop. Additionally, drivers face a more enhanced criminal charge for passing a school bus when a child is present outside the bus. Please, stay alert and slow down!

Snow Removal & Parking Reminders

If the snowfall is two or more inches before 8:00 p.m., the snow parking regulations go into effect at 2:00 a.m. the next morning. At that time, snow plowing will begin and any vehicles parked on unplowed city streets will be tagged and/or towed.

If an accumulation of two inches or more occurs after 8:00 p.m., the snow parking ban will go into effect the following morning at 2:00 a.m. (24 hours later). If there is an accumulation of snow after 8:00 p.m., plowing may occur. Cars parked on city streets will not be tagged, but cars may be plowed in.

Visit wayzata.org and look for the alert bar on the homepage or call 952-404-5369 after 8:00 p.m. to learn if the parking ordinance is in effect.

2024 Recycling Calendar

Recycling will be picked up every other Monday. Residents on the south side of Wayzata Boulevard will be served on blue weeks and residents on the north side will be served on grey weeks (see calendar). For all Monday holidays, indicated with red on the calendar, recycling will be picked up the next day.

Apply for the 2024 Boat Slip Lottery 

Applications are now open for the 2024 Boat Slip Lottery! Applications are limited to one per residence and are due the first Tuesday in February. The 2024 lottery will take place on the first Tuesday in March and those who receive a slip will be notified by phone.

Community Development

728 Wayzata Blvd E – Fence Variances

The homeowners at 728 Wayzata Blvd E are proposing to keep an existing, illegally nonconforming fence constructed in 2022, which requires two variances due to its height and opacity. The Planning Commission recommended denial of the application at their November 20 meeting by a vote of 6-0.

825 Mill St E (Promenade) – Mill St Flats 

Owner Wayzata Bay Superior Retail has submitted an application to turn the former Lunds and Byerly’s space at the Promenade’s Superior Block into first-floor apartments. Requests include a Planned Unit Development Amendment and Shoreland District Conditional Use Permit. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the application by a vote of 4-3 at their November 6 meeting. The City Council will consider the application in January.

1022 Wayzata Blvd Permit
