Panoway Lakewalk Progress

Panoway Lakewalk Progress

The Panoway Lakewalk is beginning to take shape along the shoreline! The contractor was able to set all but eight of the precast planks, which will serve as the primary structure before wind shut them down this past weekend. The contractor is now coordinating with BNSF in an attempt to set the final planks from shore. Very soon, the contractors will begin installing the aesthetic treatments of decking and railings on top of the precast planks! The lakewalk and new dock system are planned to be open for use by Memorial Day.

wayzata marina in winter

Marina Dredging Project

The City has contracted with Minger Construction to dredge the two lagoons at the Wayzata marina. The marina was last maintained (dredged) over 25 years ago and it has been determined that enough sediment accumulation has occurred to warrant maintenance. Minger will begin mobilizing equipment and preparing the area for their work starting the week of January 29. The project is proposed to be completed by early March.

ice safety info graphic

Important Ice Safety Reminder

As a reminder, the Minnesota DNR does not measure ice thickness on Minnesota lakes. Your safety is your responsibility — check ice thickness at least every 150 feet using an ice chisel, ice auger or a cordless 1/4 inch drill with a long bit. Ice thickness and strength can vary drastically over the same body of water. White ice is half as strong as newer, clear ice.

  •  Always wear a life jacket.
  • Wear cold weather protection gear.
  • Carry ice picks.
  • Check weather and water temperatures.
  • Let someone know your location and schedule.

hydrant covered in snow

Help Keep Hydrants Clear from Snow

In the event of a fire emergency during the winter, could firefighters find the hydrant near your home? Or does it get buried under a snow pile?

The Fire Department is encouraging residents to "adopt a fire hydrant" near their home and keep snow shoveled away from it during the winter season. This will ensure hydrants are visible and will greatly speed up the response time in case of an emergency. Please don't let your neighborhood hydrant remain undercover!

There is no need to notify the City or the Fire Department about a hydrant you have adopted, as this is an informal volunteer program. Your help is appreciated.
