Panoway Lakewalk Progress
The Panoway Lakewalk is beginning to take shape along the shoreline! The contractor was able to set all but eight of the precast planks, which will serve as the primary structure before wind shut them down this past weekend. The contractor is now coordinating with BNSF in an attempt to set the final planks from shore. Very soon, the contractors will begin installing the aesthetic treatments of decking and railings on top of the precast planks! The lakewalk and new dock system are planned to be open for use by Memorial Day.
The City has contracted with Minger Construction to dredge the two lagoons at the Wayzata marina. The marina was last maintained (dredged) over 25 years ago and it has been determined that enough sediment accumulation has occurred to warrant maintenance. Minger will begin mobilizing equipment and preparing the area for their work starting the week of January 29. The project is proposed to be completed by early March.
How to Make a Winter Survival Kit
Are you prepared for a winter driving emergency?
Here are a few recommended items to have:
Winter clothing: Extra jacket, boots, hat and mittens
Blanket
Hi-vis vest
Snacks & water
Portable phone charger
First aid kit
Shovel
Sand or cat litter
Extreme weather can be life-threatening, so when the temps reach below freezing, please stay inside your vehicle. Dial 911 in the event of an emergency.
As a reminder, the Minnesota DNR does not measure ice thickness on Minnesota lakes. Your safety is your responsibility — check ice thickness at least every 150 feet using an ice chisel, ice auger or a cordless 1/4 inch drill with a long bit. Ice thickness and strength can vary drastically over the same body of water. White ice is half as strong as newer, clear ice.
In the event of a fire emergency during the winter, could firefighters find the hydrant near your home? Or does it get buried under a snow pile?
The Fire Department is encouraging residents to "adopt a fire hydrant" near their home and keep snow shoveled away from it during the winter season. This will ensure hydrants are visible and will greatly speed up the response time in case of an emergency. Please don't let your neighborhood hydrant remain undercover!
There is no need to notify the City or the Fire Department about a hydrant you have adopted, as this is an informal volunteer program. Your help is appreciated.
2024 Public Works Projects
Select streets within the City of Wayzata will receive new bituminous surfacing and some will receive a bituminous seal coat application during the summer of 2024.
The Wayzata Energy & Environment Committee has created a guide to making your home more sustainable. The guide has three diagrams including interior, exterior, and yard improvements you can make. Each diagram features relevant links and resources to help get you started! Pay attention to the items highlighted in blue, as those should be prioritized for energy reduction.
This month, there will be buy-one-get-one-free deals on select bottles of wine and great discounts on liquor all month long.
