City Identifies Strategic Priorities for 2024 - 2026

In August, the City Council, members of the City’s senior leadership team, and a facilitator met for three strategic planning sessions to review progress on the City’s current strategic plan and discuss what current challenges and opportunities the community is facing that should be considered when determining updated priorities and initiatives for the next several years.

Based on that discussion, three new strategic priorities were identified:

Specific initiatives have been identified to rebalance efforts to focus on resident-centered operational excellence and fiscal strength. Initiatives include the pursuit of state bonding dollars, implementation of new and efficient technology, roadway improvements to Wayzata Boulevard, the establishment of a Public Art Committee, and more.

The City’s mission, vision, and values were also modified during this process.

Panoway Lakewalk Progress

The Panoway Lakewalk is beginning to take shape along the shoreline! Precast planks have been set, which will serve as the primary structure, and very soon, the aesthetic treatments of decking and railings will be installed on top of the precast planks! The lakewalk and new dock system are planned to be open for use by Memorial Day.

Marina Dredging Project

The City has contracted with Minger Construction to dredge the two lagoons at the Wayzata marina. The marina was last maintained (dredged) over 25 years ago and it has been determined that enough sediment accumulation has occurred to warrant maintenance. Minger mobilized and began work in mid-January. The project is expected to be completed in early March, weather permitting.

ice safety info graphic

Important Ice Safety Reminder

As a reminder, the Minnesota DNR does not measure ice thickness on Minnesota lakes. Your safety is your responsibility — check ice thickness at least every 150 feet using an ice chisel, ice auger or a cordless 1/4 inch drill with a long bit. Ice thickness and strength can vary drastically over the same body of water. White ice is half as strong as newer, clear ice.

  •  Always wear a life jacket.
  • Wear cold weather protection gear.
  • Carry ice picks.
  • Check weather and water temperatures.
  • Let someone know your location and schedule.
