Protect Water Quality, Pick Up Pet Waste!

In urban areas, stormwater carries phosphorus and other pollutants directly into Minnesota’s water resources through the storm drainage system. Unlike our household wastewater, stormwater doesn’t go through a treatment plant first, but is dumped directly into lakes, rivers, and wetlands. Fertilizers, leaves, grass clippings, eroded soil, and animal waste are all sources of phosphorus. When they are swept or washed into the nearest street or storm drain, they end up directly in Lake Minnetonka.

You can do your part to protect water quality by picking up pet waste promptly. Pet waste can contain harmful bacteria as well as nutrients. Never drop pet waste in the street or ditches.

Wayzata’s parks have pet waste stations, with pet waste bags and trash cans that are maintained by the Parks Department.

Safely Enjoy Wayzata Parks and Trails

  • All Wayzata parks open at 5:00 a.m. and close at 10:30 p.m.
  • Unless in a designated area, pets should be kept on leashes. All pet waste must be cleaned up.
  • Be courteous and approach other dogs with caution. Always ask owners for permission before approaching.
  • Do not leave personal belongings in parked vehicles.

If you plan to enjoy our parks and trails alone, always have a cell phone nearby in case of emergency.

Panoway Lakewalk & Docks Construction Update

The dock contractor is nearing completion of the new Broadway dock facility!

Please note that the new docks at Broadway and the Depot are not yet available for use by the public, as the lakefront is still an active construction area. An announcement will be made in the coming weeks when they are open.

On the lakewalk, contractors continue installing the railings and decking. Additionally, the contractor will begin cleanup of the marina and beach storage areas, beginning next week. The lakewalk and new dock systems are planned to be open for use by Memorial Day. See below for details on a ribbon cutting event to celebrate!

Bell Courts Closed for Construction

Bell Courts are closed for reconstruction and progress is being made, despite recent rain. The paving is now complete and will need to sit for several weeks before the colored surface and striping can be installed. The project includes reconstructing the courts to add four pickleball courts while keeping two tennis courts. The courts will reopen on approximately July 15.

For more information on the reconstruction project, you can visit the webpage here.
