Panoway Lakewalk & Docks Construction Update

The Broadway and Depot dock facilities are officially complete and will be open to the public beginning at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 24!

The railing and decking for the Lakewalk are nearing completion and should be finished in the next week or so.  Due to the incomplete condition of the decking and railing, the full length of the lakewalk will not yet be open to the public.  Please do not go around the barricades!

In the next few weeks (early to mid-June), BNSF railroad will be installing automated pedestrian safety gates at the Broadway Avenue Crossing and the Barry Avenue Crossing.  The docks should remain accessible during this work, but please proceed with caution while this work is being performed.

Paid Boat Parking

The new docks will now have a paid parking system that will be implemented soon. The boat parking payment system will help offset costs associated with the new community docks such as the cost for dockmasters and general maintenance. In addition, payment will only be required for non-resident users, which will diversify City revenue to help alleviate costs to Wayzata residents. The Dock Design Working Group, Panoway District Committee, and City staff reviewed various options of a parking payment system and ultimately recommended the approved system to the City Council.

A Community Celebration is Planned for July 13

The event will feature a formal dedication ceremony at 11:00 a.m., an official ribbon cutting, a "first walk" on the lakewalk, and unique family-friendly activities for both residents and visitors starting at noon.

Stay tuned for more details at wayzata.org.

Chicken Keeping Ordinance

The City Council approved the first reading of Ordinance 837 which allows for the keeping of chickens on single-family residential lots with specific restrictions. At the June 4 City Council meeting, the second reading of Ordinance 837 will be reviewed. If approved, staff will start to work on a permit application that residents can complete to keep chickens on their property if all the restrictions are met. The proposed amendments can be found in the May 21 City Council agenda packet.

Protect Water Quality, Pick Up Pet Waste!

In urban areas, stormwater carries phosphorus and other pollutants directly into Minnesota’s water resources through the storm drainage system. Unlike our household wastewater, stormwater doesn’t go through a treatment plant first, but is dumped directly into lakes, rivers, and wetlands. Fertilizers, leaves, grass clippings, eroded soil, and animal waste are all sources of phosphorus. When they are swept or washed into the nearest street or storm drain, they end up directly in Lake Minnetonka.

You can do your part to protect water quality by picking up pet waste promptly. Pet waste can contain harmful bacteria as well as nutrients. Never drop pet waste in the street or ditches.

Wayzata’s parks have pet waste stations, with pet waste bags and trash cans that are maintained by the Parks Department.

Bell Courts Closed for Construction

Bell Courts are closed for reconstruction and progress is being made, despite recent rain. The paving is now complete and will need to sit for several weeks before the colored surface and striping can be installed. The project includes reconstructing the courts to add four pickleball courts while keeping two tennis courts. The courts will reopen on approximately July 15.

For more information on the reconstruction project, you can visit the webpage here.

565 Ferndale Rd W – Subdivision

Owner Draycott DST has submitted an application to subdivide the 11.87-acre parcel at 565 Ferndale Rd W into four single-family parcels.
