The Lakewalk is Officially OPEN!

The Lakewalk is officially open for public use! The remaining detail work will be completed on the decking and railing in the coming weeks, but the facilities will remain open. The City, its consultants, and contractors are working through a minor redesign of 2 step-downs to the lake, which will make the system easier to install and remove on an annual basis. The step-downs will be installed later this summer.

City contractors have installed the sidewalk crossing at the Broadway crossing and temporary railings will be placed until the permanent railings arrive. BNSF railroad has begun installing automated pedestrian safety gates at the Broadway Avenue Crossing and the Barry Avenue crossing but have been delayed due to flooding in other parts of the Midwest. BNSF is planning to return in late-July and the new automated pedestrian gates should be activated by mid-August.
