Thank You Council Member IversonLast night, the City Council recognized Council Member Cathy Iverson for her dedicated service to Wayzata. Council Member Iverson is a long-time Wayzata resident and has spent more than a decade serving the community in official roles. More specifically, from 2012 to 2020, Cathy served on the Planning Commission with three of those years as the chair and 2021 to now, she has served on the City Council. In addition to these roles, she has helped lead the Section Foreman House Design Committee and, of course, always advocates for her neighborhood. In addition, Council Member Iverson prioritized design of the City’s built environment, maintaining the existing character of neighborhoods, and the tree canopy. To honor that, we awarded her an Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry tree.

Chief Schultz Announces RetirementAfter 5 years of leadership and providing immeasurable value to the Wayzata and Long Lake communities, Wayzata Police Chief, Marc Schultz, has officially announced his retirement. Chief Schultz will retire at the end of November and City leadership has developed a leadership transition plan in which the first phase will be to appoint Deputy Chief Jamie Baker as Interim Police Chief until early 2025. Deputy Chief Baker is well qualified and prepared for this opportunity to lead the department during this time. Ultimately, there will be a process early in 2025, which will include members of both department and community, to fill the Police Chief position indefinitely. Update on New DocksIf you've spent any time along Panoway, you've noticed our shiny new docks! The docks were designed by J.F. Brennan with guidance from a community-led dock design subcommittee. Generally, the big changes from the previous docks are that they are floating, there are more loading areas, there is an expanded number of slips, and they are constructed with higher quality decking. The City also implemented a pay system to cover a portion of the maintenance and operations, however, residents can park for free. Register for free parking here. We have collected a lot of feedback from boaters, community members, and dock workers over the past month and a half since they have been open and will continue to do so for the remainder of the summer. In September, staff and community members plan to meet again to discuss all the feedback and opportunities to make the user experience even better before the next year. Click here to submit feedback

Water Meters to be Replaced This FallThe City has contracted with Ferguson Waterworks and RMR Services to replace two-thirds of residential and commercial water meters throughout the city. Meters were last replaced 20 years ago and are approaching their useful life. The project is anticipated to begin in September and the contractor will be notifying affected properties, via letter, to schedule appointments. While there will be no cost to property owners for this meter upgrade, owners are required to have the water meter replaced. Property owners will need to ensure that the water shutoff valve on the incoming water service is in working condition, and if the valve does not close or it leaks, it will need to be replaced or repaired prior to scheduling an appointment. Questions? Call Public Works at 952-404-5368 or email nnystrom@wayzata.org.
