Remembering Sergeant J.W. Anderson and Officer Bill MathewsOn August 31, 1982, Sergeant J.W. Anderson made the ultimate sacrifice on his 36th birthday and was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance. On that crucial day, Sgt. Anderson's valiant actions helped save numerous lives. We shall always remember his bravery. As we approach the weekend, the City would also like to honor and remember Officer Bill Mathews. A distracted and intoxicated driver killed Officer Mathews while performing his official duties on September 8, 2017. Officer Mathews exemplified all of the core values of the Wayzata Police Department. Members of WPD, as well as the communities he proudly served, continue to miss Officer Mathews.

School Bus Safety ReminderAs a reminder, there is a zero-tolerance policy for speeding in school zones, crosswalks, and for school bus stop arm violations. WPD officers will be monitoring these zones, so please be mindful. When you see a school bus slowing down or stopping, it’s not just the bus that you need to have your eyes on – but the surrounding area too. Children often cross the street when boarding or getting off the bus. This is why you must stop for school buses, and don’t attempt to pass.

A Start to Broadway Dock ImprovementsWe value the feedback we received this summer regarding the new Broadway docks and decided to begin testing out a new approach before summer’s end. Today, vertical bumpers were removed on select slips on the Broadway docks and were replaced with horizontal bumpers on a trial basis. Based on input from our consultants and dock contractor, our intent is that the horizontal bumpers will mitigate the issues boaters experienced this summer by providing better protection for the full length of each slip. These will be tested for the remainder of the season. If you use the new bumpers, please let us know what you think here: wayzata.org/feedback
