The City of Wayzata has contracted with J.L Theis Inc. to replace the traffic signal at the Broadway Avenue/Wayzata Blvd. intersection. Currently, there is a temporary traffic signal system in place, and the contractor is completing curb and sidewalk work on the south side of the intersection and installing permanent signal system components. It is anticipated that the curb and sidewalk work on the north side of the intersection and the permanent signal system will not be complete until the spring of 2025.

Water Meter Replacement Coming Soon

The City of Wayzata has contracted with Ferguson Waterworks and VEPO Metering to replace approximately two-thirds of the residential and commercial water meters throughout the City. Meters were last replaced approximately 20 years ago and are approaching their useful life. The project is anticipated to begin in November of 2024. The contractor will be notifying affected properties, via letter, to schedule appointments, in the coming weeks. There will be no cost to the property owner for this meter upgrade, but owners are required to have the water meter replaced.

Property owners will need to ensure that the water shutoff valve on the incoming water service (before your water meter) is in working condition.  If the valve does not close or it leaks, it will need to be replaced or repaired prior to scheduling an appointment.

Please contact our Assistant Director of Public Works, Nick Nystrom at nnystrom@wayzata.org with any questions regarding water meter replacement.

Did You Receive a Letter Regarding the City's Water Service Lines?

Last week, letters were mailed to approximately 365 property owners regarding their water service lines. The City is in the process of preparing a service line inventory and, according to our records, the service material of these properties is unknown but may contain lead.

Lead is not a significant concern in Wayzata’s drinking water. The City tests the water regularly and provides a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) on an annual basis. The City is simply preparing an inventory based on both state and federal requirements.

Please contact our Assistant Director of Public Works, Nick Nystrom at nnystrom@wayzata.org with any questions regarding this notice.

Keep Storm Drains Clear of Yard Waste

Although yard waste is composted of natural materials that will eventually decompose, the debris can affect the health of our aquatic ecosystem and could ruin our creeks and lakes. You can prevent this by keeping leaves off the street and utilizing yard waste collection events like the one below.

fall leaves

November 11 Fall Leaf Pickup

The City of Wayzata Fall Leaf pick-up is Monday, November 11. Leaves must be in compostable bags and placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. The bags must state that they meet ASTM D6400 standards for compositing and they are “compostable.” Bags marked “biodegradable” or “degradable” will not work. There is a 40 lb limit per bag.
