Light Up the Lake Returns TONIGHT!

Join us on Lake Street from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. for refreshments, horse-drawn wagon rides, reindeer, music, a town lighting ceremony, and the spectacular parade of lights with local fire departments. It will be another magical evening in Wayzata, we can't wait to see you there! The annual Candy Hunt the day of will be for children up to 5 years old only. 

Give Back

In the spirit of giving, families are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to an IOCP food drive that will take place on Panoway during the event. There will also be the annual Toys for Tots drive hosted by the Wayzata Police Department! Bring unwrapped new toys to drop off under the tree or at the Depot during the event.

Santa Tour in Wayzata Neighborhoods

Santa Touring Wayzata Neighborhoods

Following the parade of lights tonight, we received word from the North Pole that Santa will be touring some Wayzata Neighborhoods on his way home!  If you live in any of the below neighborhoods, you may want to peek out your window after 5:45 p.m. The Fire Chief knows the details of Santa's route, so if you want to know for sure if he will fly by, please call 952-404-5338.

Farewell Open House for Mayor Mouton

Stop by City Hall on December 18 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. to celebrate Mayor Mouton’s 10 years of service to the community. There will be light refreshments, a cash bar, and a short program at 6:00 p.m. All are welcome!

2025 Budget & Property Tax Levy

The City Council will be holding a Public Hearing on the final 2025 Budget and Property Tax Levy at the December 3 meeting at 7:00 p.m. The vote and adoption of the final 2025 budget will take place at the December 17 meeting at 7:00 p.m. If you would like to provide comments in person you can attend the meetings to speak at the public hearing. If you would like to comment in advance, email PublicComment@wayzata.org.

Mill Street Partial Street Closure

The eastern portion of Mill Street will be closed on December 16 to allow a crane to set up and replace an HVAC unit on the Muni. Traffic will be routed to use Lake Street and Broadway Avenue to access the adjacent parking lot and Mill Street Parking Ramp.

Proposed Cannabis Regulations

Over the last few months, the City Council and Planning Commission have been reviewing proposed cannabis business regulations. The state is anticipated to begin approving business licenses for the legal sale of cannabis in January, and it is in the City’s best interest to have an adopted set of rules for cannabis businesses before that begins. The City Council will be reviewing the proposed regulations in full at their December 3 meeting. For more information, please visit the Agenda Center here.

The Boat Slip Lottery is Now Live!

Apply now for the 100 boat slip marina located at Barry Avenue and Grove Lane. Applications are limited to one per residence. The deadline for renewal and new permit applications is the first Tuesday in February. The 2025 lottery will take place on the first Tuesday in March.

Lakewalk Stepdown Installation Update

The structure of the stepdowns on the Lakewalk were completed in November, however, due to cold weather, the finishing touches will be completed indoors over the winter. The finished stepdowns are planned to be installed in the Spring where Lakewalk users will be able sit and enjoy direct access to Lake Minnetonka.

Driver's License Services

The Wayzata Motor Vehicle Department offers limited driver's license services, including duplicate licenses* for standard, enhanced and REAL ID. Duplicate services include change of address, lost or stolen. This does not include license renewals or photos. 

Other services provided at the Wayzata DMV include:

  • Passport processing and renewals
  • Tab renewals
  • Fishing & Hunting Licenses and more!

Broadway Ave/Wayzata Blvd Traffic Signal Replacement Update

The City of Wayzata has contracted with J.L Theis Inc. to replace the traffic signal at the Broadway Avenue/Wayzata Blvd. intersection. Currently, there is a temporary traffic signal system in place, and the contractor is completing curb and sidewalk work on the south side of the intersection and installing permanent signal system components.The curb and sidewalk work on the north side of the intersection and the permanent signal system will not be complete until the spring of 2025.

Keep Storm Drains Clear of Yard Waste

Although yard waste is composted of natural materials that will eventually decompose, the debris can affect the health of our aquatic ecosystem and could ruin our creeks and lakes. You can prevent this by keeping leaves off the street and utilizing yard waste collection events like the one below.
