Mill Street Partial Street Closure & Wayzata Bar and Grill Closure Next Week

The eastern portion of Mill Street will be closed on December 16 to allow a crane to set up and replace an HVAC unit on the Muni. Traffic will be routed to use Lake Street and Broadway Avenue to access the adjacent parking lot and Mill Street Parking Ramp.

Wayzata Bar & Grill will be closed all day on December 16 and December 17 for construction.

Lakewalk

Winter Use of the Lakewalk

The Panoway Lakewalk is scheduled to remain open during the winter season. However, snow removal will not be conducted, so snow will naturally accumulate. This will allow a packed snow trail on the Lakewalk to facilitate use throughout the winter months. City staff will regularly monitor the condition of the Lakewalk, and if conditions are deemed unsafe, the Lakewalk will be closed to the public.

Proposed Cannabis Regulations

Over the last few months, the City Council and Planning Commission have been reviewing proposed cannabis business regulations. The state is anticipated to begin approving business licenses for the legal sale of cannabis in January, and it is in the City’s best interest to have an adopted set of rules for cannabis businesses before that begins. The City Council tabled the first reading of the ordinance after discussion at their December 3 meeting and will consider it at their December 17 meeting.  For more information, please visit the Agenda Center here.

R-3A Redevelopment Study

City Council has directed staff to study the character of newly redeveloped homes in the entire R-3A district. Council and Planning Commission workshop feedback and the results of engagement with residents and developers are being compiled. A public hearing on the recommended zoning code changes will be held at the December 16 Planning Commission meeting. Those materials are available for public review in the Agenda Center and on the project webpage.

winter driving reminders

Winter Driving Reminders

‘Tis the season for slippery road conditions and snow accumulation! Here are a few winter driving reminders:

  • Check the tread on your tires or make the swap to winter tires. It is critical to have the proper tread for the winter, because it increases safety for better brake control and traction.
  • Allow extra time for your travels
  • Slow down
  • Leave a reactionary gap between other vehicles
  • Keep your gas tank full
  • Remove all snow and ice prior to driving

If involved in an accident, please pull over to a safe location when possible to protect our first responders on scene.

  • If an accumulation of 2 inches or more occurs after 8:00 p.m., the snow parking ban will go into effect the following morning at 2:00 a.m. (24 hours later).
  • If there is an accumulation of snow after 8:00 p.m., plowing may occur. Cars parked on the street will not be tagged, but cars may be plowed in.

Design Standards Update

After three years of administering the current set of architectural Design Standards for new development, City staff is bringing forward minor adjustments to the ordinance based on best practices and recent updates to the state building code. The code changes will be considered by the Planning Commission at their December 16 meeting. Materials will be available for public review the Friday before the meeting in the Agenda Center.

Wayzata Skating Rinks

The Parks Department has taken advantage of the recent drop in temperatures to begin preparing the City’s ice rinks for use over the winter months! Klapprich field and Margaret Circle park have both been flooded. Because of the forecasted variable temperatures, it will take time before the ice gains enough strength to support the equipment needed to prepare the ice for use by the public. Signs will be posted to stay off the ice until rinks are fully prepped for use. Stay tuned on social media and this email for opening dates.

Water Meter Replacement

The City of Wayzata has contracted with Ferguson Waterworks and VEPO Metering to replace approximately two-thirds of the residential and commercial water meters throughout the city. Meters were last replaced approximately 20 years ago and are approaching their useful life. The contractor has begun notifying affected properties, via letter, to schedule appointments, beginning in mid-December. There will be no cost to the property owner for this meter upgrade, but owners are required to have the water meter replaced.
