A Message from Mayor Mullin

In my first month on the job, I've had the pleasure of meeting and reconnecting with many members of our community. In our first three meetings of the year, your Council has been actively addressing various important issues, such as responding to the legalization of marijuana in our state. We've appointed nearly 50 residents to our boards and commissions, set legislative priorities at the capital, provided guidance on the scope, timing, and budget for the proposed rehabilitation of Klapprich Park, and made minor adjustments to the City's design standards for homes and commercial properties.

I value your feedback and encourage you to join me at my first Monthly Meetup with the Mayor at the Muni on Monday, February 10 at the Wayzata Bar and Grill (see below for details), and my inaugural State of the City Address on Tuesday, February 25 at Wayzata City Hall. (see below for details). Let's continue working together to make our community even better.

Building Permit Under Review

641 Lake St E

Applicant and property owner Marquee Place, LLC has applied to replace a portion of 641 Lake St E with a new two-story commercial structure. The white portion of the building, built in 1952, previously had Caribou Coffee and Jewelweed as tenants. The project underwent limited Design Standards Review due to its small size and is currently under typical building permit review. Since the proposed project follows all regulations of the Zoning Code, including the C-4B District height limit of 30 feet, the project does not require a public hearing at Planning Commission or review by the City Council.  Work on the site is projected to start in the spring.

Please contact City Planner Valerie Quarles at vquarles@wayzata.org or 952-404-5323 with any questions or visit the project page on the website to view the plans under review.

75 Ash Trees Scheduled for Removal

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has been active in Wayzata since 2019 and has since infested ash trees throughout Hennepin County, which the Minnesota MDA now considers “generally infested.”

In recent years, the City of Wayzata has removed and replaced hundreds of public ash trees and committed to long-term injection treatments for a hundred others.

Still, around 300 untreated ash remain along our City right-of-way. Of these, about 75 are marked with an orange or white ‘X’ and scheduled for removal in the coming weeks and months. You can expect to see Pro Tree Outdoor Services at each site shown on the map. Most replacement plantings will be completed by City staff throughout the 2025 growing season.
