A Message from the MayorHi Wayzata Neighbors, Wayzata Safety Reminder: Focus on the Road. April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Sadly, distracted driving has become a serious danger on our roads, with cell phone use (texting, calls, social media) being a major culprit. When we drive distracted, we lose critical seconds needed to avoid accidents. Tragically, thousands are killed and hundreds of thousands injured annually due to distracted driving. Wayzata deeply understands this loss. We remember Officer Bill Mathews, who was fatally struck by a distracted and impaired driver on September 8, 2017. Let's honor his memory by committing to drive without distractions. Put your phone away and focus on the road. Every second makes a difference. Contact the Mayor: - City phone #: 952-404-5327

More Access to Lake Minnetonka: Stepdowns on the Panoway Lakewalk to be Installed This Spring One of the most anticipated design components of the 1,200 ft long lakewalk has been the installation of the community-driven “stepdowns.” Unfortunately, due to needed design tweaks, the stepdowns were not able to be installed last year. The two stepdowns were originally designed to give even more access to the lake. Community members will now have another place to sit and even dip their toes into Lake Minnetonka! They will be installed this spring adjacent to the section of the lakewalk with benches. The City will also be installing life preservers nearby as well as signage to indicate that fishing, swimming, and docking boats is prohibited.

Broadway Ave/Wayzata Blvd Traffic Signal Work has resumed for this traffic signal and includes concrete curb and sidewalk improvements and installation of the remaining underground components on the north half of the intersection, as well as installation of the signal control cabinets, structural steel components, signal equipment, and electrical wiring. Once work is completed on the new signal system, the temporary wood-pole signal system will be removed, and the intersection pavement will be milled and repaved, followed by pavement striping. There may be lane shifts and occasional delays while construction crews continue to work this spring, primarily on the north half of the intersection. It is anticipated that the project will be completed by mid-June. If you have questions about this project, contact the City’s Engineering Department at 952-404-5371 or at jschumann@wayzata.org.
