A Message from the Mayor

Your voice matters! City Leadership is deeply committed to fostering a vibrant two-way dialogue with our residents. This week, we took that commitment to action with two important community engagement sessions. Earlier in the week, we hosted our inaugural neighborhood listening session at the Wayzata Depot, connecting with approximately 50 downtown residents and stakeholders. We shared updates and, more importantly, listened intently to your valuable input on topics ranging from Public Safety to Development, Construction, and City Finances. Mark your calendars – we'll be hosting another neighborhood listening session in early Fall, so stay tuned for details!

Our commitment to hearing from you extended to our north side of our community on Monday. In partnership with Hennepin County, MN-DOT, Three Rivers Park District, Wayzata Public Schools, and the City of Plymouth, we held a well-attended community meeting focused on traffic and safety along County Road 101-N / Central Ave. Over 100 community members participated, sharing their experiences and insights to help shape both short-term and long-term solutions to address these important concerns.

More Access to Lake Minnetonka: Stepdowns on the Panoway Lakewalk to be Installed This Week

One of the most anticipated design components of the 1,200 ft long lakewalk has been the installation of the community-driven “stepdowns.” Unfortunately, due to needed design tweaks, the stepdowns were not able to be installed last year.

The two stepdowns were originally designed to give even more access to the lake. Community members will now have another place to sit and even dip their toes into Lake Minnetonka! They will be installed this spring adjacent to the section of the lakewalk with benches.

The City will also be installing life preservers nearby as well as signage to indicate that fishing, swimming, and docking boats is prohibited.

Watermain & Street Rehabilitation Project

The City has hired Park Construction Company to install watermain pipes in the Central Ave S/Lake St E/Hampton Ave S neighborhood. This planned improvement to the City’s water distribution system will improve water flow in the overall system and will provide new water services for most property owners in the project area. The project also includes milling and re-paving select streets this summer, following the watermain installation work.

Park Construction Company began work this week along Hampton Street and Lake Street, as well as concrete repairs along Broadway Avenue North and Grove Lane. Property owners in the affected neighborhoods will receive a letter from the City with additional information before construction begins. Click the link below to view the schedule for watermain installation work.

If you have additional questions about this project, please contact Jen Schumann at jschumann@wayzata.org, or 952-404-5371.
