A Message from Mayor Mullin

Announcement: Dan Koch Appointed to Wayzata City Council

Dan Koch

I'm pleased to announce that Dan Koch has been appointed to serve out the remainder of the Wayzata City Council term through the end of 2026, filling the seat vacated by Jeff Parkhill.

Dan is a long-time Wayzata resident and currently leads a team of commercial bankers at Bridgewater Bank. A proud graduate of Wayzata High School and St. Olaf College, Dan brings a wealth of experience back to the council. He previously served on the Wayzata City Council from 2016 to 2020 and is a current member of the Housing Redevelopment Authority (2023-present), the Interfaith Outreach Community Partners Board (2025-present), and the Wayzata Conservancy Board (2016-present).

Please join me in welcoming Dan back to the Wayzata City Council.

I would also like to recognize Jeff Parkhill for his dedicated service to the council as he moves out of state to support his wife, Karen's, new job. We wish them both the very best.

Subdivision Ordinance Update

On September 23, the City Council completed the second reading of an ordinance amending regulations for the subdivision of property. These amendments allow smaller subdivisions of up to five single-family lots to have reduced right-of-way requirements should a roadway be required as part of the development.

701 Central Avenue North

Xcel Energy has submitted a new application for two Conditional Use Permits (CUP) to install a 123-foot-tall monopole at their substation at 701 Central Ave N to mount a private Long-Term Evolution (pLTE) antenna that will allow Xcel to communicate with their equipment.  The antenna will not provide public commercial telecommunications. The pole replaces an existing, shorter pole at the site. The Planning Commission held the Public Hearing on September 8 and unanimously recommended denial of the application. City Council is scheduled to review the application on October 7.

547 Harrington Rd

Owner, Craig Swanson, and applicant, Kyle Hunt, have submitted a development application requesting a lakeshore setback variance. The applicants are seeking a 152.5-foot variance which would allow a home to be constructed at 108 feet from the ordinary high-water line, which is closer to the lake shore than permitted by ordinance. The public hearing was held on August 18 and recommended for approval by the Planning Commission. City Council approved the variance on September 23.
