A Message from Mayor MullinHello Neighbors, Communication and transparency are the cornerstones of my commitment to serving our community as Mayor, and I believe your input is essential to effective City governance. I want to highlight several ways you can share your ideas, concerns, and questions directly with City leadership. Upcoming Opportunities to Connect - Neighborhood Meeting:
- Join City Council members and Staff for the second neighborhood meeting of the year on Monday, October 6, at 5:30PM. We will be meeting at Margaret Circle Park, located at 320 Margaret Circle. Bring your ideas for Wayzata, topics of concern, or questions. We plan on two meetings each year.
- Wayzata City Showcase & Monthly Muni Mayor Meet-Up:
- On Monday, October 13, from 4:30–6:30 PM, bring the kids or grandkids to the Wayzata City Showcase at City Hall to learn more about public safety including K9 and mock burn demonstrations, a display of city equipment including fire trucks, squad cars, public works equipment.
- Afterwards, join me at my Monthly Muni Mayor Meet-Up! These informal gatherings are a great chance to connect with me, have a conversation and exchange ideas. Stop by The Muni, at 747 Mill Street, anytime from 7:00–9:00PM.
Ongoing Ways to Share Your Input - Attend a City Council Meeting: We welcome your feedback! City Council meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday each month. There is a Public Forum during each meeting where you can directly address the Council. Come observe and participate!
- One-on-One Dialogue: While I encourage you to participate in these community events, please know I also welcome one-on-one dialogue with any resident.

Apply to Sit on a City Commission, Authority, or Board Want to be more involved with decisions within the City? Join a commission, authority, or board! The process offers all interested citizens an opportunity to be considered for appointments based on their expertise. Openings on commission, authority, and boards are staggered and vary on term length. City of Wayzata ShowcaseSave the date for the City of Wayzata's annual City Showcase! Formerly known as Public Safety Day, this will take place outside of Wayzata City Hall from 4:30-6:30 PM on Monday, October 13. Join us for fire demonstrations, K9 demonstrations, a bounce house, face painting, free hot dogs, giveaways & trinkets, touch-a-trucks, and more! We can't wait to see you!

Dig It Day Get to know your neighbors while volunteering! Saturday, October 18, the Public Works Department needs your help getting City gardens ready for winter. The morning will kick-off at the Panoway Plaza with check-in and refreshments. From there, volunteers will be dispersed to gardens in groups. This is a family-friendly volunteering opportunity! Sign up as a family, a group of neighbors, as a couple, or on your own! This will be the perfect setting to meet other generous residents and participate in the nurturing of Wayzata’s landscaping. Short-Term Rental OrdinanceOn September 23, the City completed the second reading of an ordinance prohibiting Short-Term Rentals. Existing short-term rentals are permitted to continue until their license expires on March 31, 2026. A copy of the ordinance will be available on the City’s website. All materials presented to the City Council and history of this topic’s discussion are available on the City’s Short-Term Rental website at: Wayzata.org/short-term-rentals.

Subdivision Ordinance UpdateOn September 23, the City Council completed the second reading of an ordinance amending regulations for the subdivision of property. These amendments allow smaller subdivisions of up to five single-family lots to have reduced right-of-way requirements should a roadway be required as part of the development. 701 Central Avenue North Xcel Energy has withdrawn their application for two Conditional Use Permits (CUP) to install a 123-foot-tall monopole at their substation at 701 Central Ave N to mount a private Long-Term Evolution (pLTE) antenna. The Planning Commission held the public hearing on September 8 and unanimously recommended denial of the application.

547 Harrington RdOwner, Craig Swanson, and applicant, Kyle Hunt, have submitted a development application requesting a lakeshore setback variance. The applicants are seeking a 152.5-foot variance which would allow a home to be constructed at 108 feet from the ordinary high-water line, which is closer to the lake shore than permitted by ordinance. The public hearing was held on August 18 and recommended for approval by the Planning Commission. City Council approved the variance on September 23.

Klapprich ParkThe Klapprich Park construction is currently underway. The site construction is expected to continue until late fall, and the building construction is expected to continue into the winter. Specific construction updates can be found at the Klapprich Park Project Webpage. The Dog Park and field are closed until the sod has been established and construction has been completed.

Photos will be voted on by the public on the City’s Facebook Page to determine the winners. First, second, and third top votes will receive gift cards to the Wayzata Bar & Grill. In addition, winning photographs will be featured on the City of Wayzata photo contest winners web page. The contest will run July 15 - December 15.
