A Message from Mayor MullinA Wayzata Tradition: Supporting Our Police & Fire Did you know that Wayzata has two special organizations dedicated specifically to raising funds and support for our Police and Fire agencies? These groups are vital to our city, bridging the gap for community needs, special projects, and essential equipment that aren't covered by the annual budget. Our tradition of support runs deep. It began in 1934 with the Wayzata Fire Second Call, founded by James Ford Bell, W.G. Northrup, C.S. Pillsbury, and Dr. Angus Morrison. Today, that organization has grown to approximately 400 members. Decades later, in 1980, the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition was established. Many will remember their early support of national safety efforts, including endorsing McGruff, the famous floppy-eared "spokes-dog" detective. Thanks to generous community donations, our Police and Fire Departments have been able to maintain an active presence, purchase essential equipment, and lead beloved events like the City Showcase and Light Up the Lake. Both groups are registered non-profit organizations. Please join me in considering a donation to one—or both—this year to help keep our community safe and connected. Wayzata Skating Rinks In ProcessWith the recent drop in temperatures, the Parks Department started preparing the City’s ice rinks for the winter season. Klapprich Field received its first flood on Wednesday, December 3. As the ice continues to build and strengthen, it will need time before it can support the equipment required to finish preparing the rink for public use. To keep everyone safe, staff will post signs reminding visitors to stay off the ice until the rinks are officially opened. We know the community is excited to skate each year, and we appreciate your patience in giving our team the necessary time to prepare the ice ensures the best possible skating conditions for everyone. Please note: due to ongoing construction of the warming house, the parking lot and restrooms will remain closed until December 16. Skating may be allowed before the warming house opens, provided the rink is ready. Thank you for your understanding, and stay tuned for opening updates!

401 Lake Street EastStudio BV has submitted a variance application on behalf of Walleye Capital LLC, a tenant and affiliate entity under common ownership with the property owner at 401 Lake St E, requesting consideration to reduce the required first floor retail percentage. Properties along Lake Street that are zoned C-4 (Central Business District) are required to use at least 50 percent of the building frontage and ground floor building footprint for retail. A variance for this property was granted in 2020 to reduce the ground floor retail requirement from 50% to 22%. The new proposal requests a further 50% reduction to allow for a total of 11% retail on the ground floor. The remaining 11% of the existing retail space would be dedicated to the service based functions (office/meeting space) of the third floor tenant, Walleye Capital LLC. At the public hearing held on November 17th the Planning Commission unanimously recommended denial of the request. The item is scheduled for City Council review on December 16, 2025.

Winter Snow Removal Reminders
Snow Clearing Section 305 of the Wayzata City Code outlines the following rules for keeping public sidewalks clear. Snow, ice, and debris must be removed from sidewalks adjoining your property. Commercial and multi-family properties: Snow and ice must be cleared within the first four hours of daytime (8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) after snowfall ends. One- and two-family homes: Snow and ice must be removed within 24 hours after snowfall ends. If complete removal isn’t possible: Property owners must take necessary steps to reduce hazards on the sidewalk. Exemptions: At the City Manager’s discretion, the City may remove snow from sidewalks immediately adjacent to street curbs on Central Avenue North and Wayzata Boulevard and exempt residential properties on these streets from these requirements.
Snow Placement When clearing snow from private property, it may only be placed on the boulevard directly adjacent to your own property. Snow may not be pushed across the street or deposited down the road. If you use a contractor or someone else helps with your snow removal, please be sure they are aware of this requirement. Stay safe this winter, and thank you for doing your part to keep our community accessible! Questions? Contact Wayzata Public Works at 952-404-5360.

Snow Emergencies and NotificationsWith the recent snowfall, we’d like to remind residents about Wayzata’s winter parking ordinance and how to stay updated during snow emergencies. Winter Parking Ordinance City Ordinance 303.1A states that no vehicle may be parked on any public street starting at 2:00 a.m. after a snowfall of 2 inches or more. The parking ban remains in effect until streets are fully plowed to the curb. Here’s how the timing works: - If 2 inches or more fall before 8 p.m.: The parking ban begins at 2:00 a.m. the following morning. Plowing starts at that time, and vehicles left on unplowed streets may be tagged or towed.
- If 2 inches or more fall after 8 p.m.: The parking ban begins 24 hours later, at 2:00 a.m. the next morning.
- If snow falls after 8 p.m. but plowing occurs anyway: Vehicles will not be tagged, but they may be plowed in.
Snow Emergency Notifications Residents can sign up for Snow Emergency Parking Ban Alerts to receive emails when citywide plowing is scheduled. Click here to subscribe to text or email notifications. You can also check the City website or call 952-404-5369 after 8 p.m. to find out whether the parking ban is in effect.
