Klapprich Park and Skating Rink Update

The warming house and open skating area are planned to be open Friday, December 19 beginning at 3:00 p.m. 

The hockey rink is not yet ready for use. We know you are eager to use the rinks, but the more time our staff has to properly prepare the ice, the better the quality it will be. Thank you for your patience.

Klapprich Park Opening Celebration

To mark the warming house completion, the community is invited to a celebratory reopening event on Saturday, January 10, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Enjoy an afternoon of skating, hot chocolate, snacks, and music.

City Council Approves 2026 Budget

On December 2, the City Council approved the Final 2026 Budget of $23 million. The General Fund Budget was set at $9.8 million, a 7.15% increase, with a property tax levy increase of 4.9% over 2025.

Some main drivers of the increase include adding a Full-Time Fire Chief (beginning of 2Q) and investing in employee compensation for a 3% cost of living adjustment and market increases for Police Officers.

401 Lake Street East

On December 16, 2025 the City Council formally denied a variance to the ground floor retail percentage and frontage at 401 Lake St. E. The application by Studio BV was submitted on behalf of Walleye Capital LLC, a tenant and affiliate entity under common ownership with the property owner. Properties along Lake Street that are zoned C-4 (Central Business District) are required to use at least 50 percent of the building frontage and ground floor building footprint for retail. A variance for this property was granted in 2020 to reduce the ground floor retail requirement from 50% to 22%. The new proposal requests a further 50% reduction to allow for a total of 11% retail on the ground floor. The remaining 11% of the existing retail space would be dedicated to the service based functions (office/meeting space) of the third floor tenant, Walleye Capital LLC. At the public hearing held on November 17th the Planning Commission unanimously recommended denial of the request.

220 Central Ave S  

Custom One Homes, LLC has submitted an application for a variance and conditional use permit (CUP) to construct a two-family dwelling at 220 Central Ave. S. The property is located within the R-3A zoning district which requires a lot width of 100 feet for two-family homes. The lot width is 89.9 feet wide and applicant is seeking a 10.1 foot variance to the minimum lot width.  Additionally, two-family homes are a conditional use in the R3-A district. Conditional uses are generally permitted, however the City may impose conditions to mitigate potential impacts the use may have on adjoining properties. The Public Hearing was held on December 1, 2025 where the Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the application. City Council is scheduled to review the proposal on January 6, 2026.

Winter Snow Removal Reminders


Snow Clearing

Section 305 of the Wayzata City Code outlines the following rules for keeping public sidewalks clear. Snow, ice, and debris must be removed from sidewalks adjoining your property.

  • Commercial and multi-family properties: Snow and ice must be cleared within the first four hours of daytime (8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) after snowfall ends.

  • One- and two-family homes: Snow and ice must be removed within 24 hours after snowfall ends.

  • If complete removal isn’t possible: Property owners must take necessary steps to reduce hazards on the sidewalk.

  • Exemptions: At the City Manager’s discretion, the City may remove snow from sidewalks immediately adjacent to street curbs on Central Avenue North and Wayzata Boulevard and exempt residential properties on these streets from these requirements.

Snow Placement 

When clearing snow from private property, it may only be placed on the boulevard directly adjacent to your own property. Snow may not be pushed across the street or deposited down the road. If you use a contractor or someone else helps with your snow removal, please be sure they are aware of this requirement.

Snow Emergencies and Notifications

With the recent snowfall, we’d like to remind residents about Wayzata’s winter parking ordinance and how to stay updated during snow emergencies.

Winter Parking Ordinance

City Ordinance 303.1A states that no vehicle may be parked on any public street starting at 2:00 a.m. after a snowfall of 2 inches or more. The parking ban remains in effect until streets are fully plowed to the curb. Here’s how the timing works:

  • If 2 inches or more fall before 8 p.m.: The parking ban begins at 2:00 a.m. the following morning. Plowing starts at that time, and vehicles left on unplowed streets may be tagged or towed.
  • If 2 inches or more fall after 8 p.m.: The parking ban begins 24 hours later, at 2:00 a.m. the next morning.
  • If snow falls after 8 p.m. but plowing occurs anyway: Vehicles will not be tagged, but they may be plowed in.


Snow Emergency Notifications 

Residents can sign up for Snow Emergency Parking Ban Alerts to receive emails when citywide plowing is scheduled. Click here to subscribe to text or email notifications. You can also check the City website or call 952-404-5369 after 8 p.m. to find out whether the parking ban is in effect.
