Winter Snow Removal Reminders
Snow Clearing
Section 305 of the Wayzata City Code outlines the following rules for keeping public sidewalks clear. Snow, ice, and debris must be removed from sidewalks adjoining your property.
Commercial and multi-family properties: Snow and ice must be cleared within the first four hours of daytime (8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) after snowfall ends.
One- and two-family homes: Snow and ice must be removed within 24 hours after snowfall ends.
If complete removal isn’t possible: Property owners must take necessary steps to reduce hazards on the sidewalk.
Exemptions: At the City Manager’s discretion, the City may remove snow from sidewalks immediately adjacent to street curbs on Central Avenue North and Wayzata Boulevard and exempt residential properties on these streets from these requirements.
Snow Placement
When clearing snow from private property, it may only be placed on the boulevard directly adjacent to your own property. Snow may not be pushed across the street or deposited down the road. If you use a contractor or someone else helps with your snow removal, please be sure they are aware of this requirement.
Stay safe this winter, and thank you for doing your part to keep our community accessible!
