MnDOT Public Meeting for Hwy 12 construction on Feburary 19

Attend Public Meeting About Highway 12 Construction on Feb. 19

Improvements are coming to Hwy 12 between Wayzata and Minnetonka. Join MnDOT for an in-person public meeting to learn more about the Hwy 12 construction project, 5–7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19 at Wayzata City Hall (600 Rice St. East in Wayzata). The road work is scheduled to begin in April and be completed in the fall.

At the meeting, the MnDOT project team will provide an overview of project, traffic impacts and construction schedule. A short presentation will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session.

More about the Highway 12 project

MnDOT is improving three miles of Highway 12 between Wayzata and Minnetonka through a major pavement preservation project. Work includes full reconstruction and pavement repairs, as well as important drainage improvements, which will support the overall maintenance and lifespan of the roadway.

Highway 12 will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Shoreline Drive in Wayzata and I-494 in Minnetonka during construction. Several ramps across the Highway 12 corridor will also be closed during the project. Motorists should expect delays, weekend closures as well as lane and ramp closures.

I-394 construction adds to Highway 12 impacts

Highway 12 traffic will also be impacted by construction on Interstate 394 between Highway 100 to downtown Minneapolis, which will begin in late February and continue through the fall. Travelers are encouraged to learn more and sign up for email updates: https://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/i94-i394minneapolis/index.html.

Controlled Burn at 380 Broadway Ave N Planned February 17

This winter, the City has been working with Hennepin County to remove trees that have been infested with Emerald Ash Borer near Broadway Ave N and I-394. The resulting debris is being managed in a few different ways:

  • Suitable logs will be milled into lumber for various city projects
  • Large brush will be chipped on-site to mulch hundreds of new tree plantings this spring
  • Smaller brush will be burned on-site to enrich the planting soils

You may notice smoke near Broadway Ave N on Tuesday morning, Feb. 17, when the burn is scheduled to begin (weather permitting). Staff will be on-site to manage the fire under guidance from the Wayzata Fire Department.
