Call for Volunteers!

Gateway Landscaping Project Volunteers Needed
The City needs men, women and high school student volunteers to plant trees, shrubs and perennials on Saturday, September 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. near Gleason Lake Road and Highway 12. Volunteers will help beautify and improve the gateway entrance to Wayzata, in conjunction with the City’s Public Works Department and MNDOT’s Community Roadside Landscape Partnership. This is Phase One of a multiple phase beautification program and volunteer support is vital. Please contact Lynn McCarthy at volunteers@wayzata.org to sign up.

Pull It Day Volunteers Needed
The annual Pull It Day, a fall cleanup of the city’s public gardens to prepare them for winter, needs some helpers. Pull It volunteers are needed from the morning of Saturday, October 14. For more details or to sign up to volunteer, email volunteers@wayzata.org. No gardening experience needed!

Wayzata 2040, Sailing Ahead

Wayzata 2040, Sailing Ahead is the proactive and highly-engaged visioning process, enabling stakeholders and community members to be part of the first step of Wayzata’s Comprehensive Plan process. We need your input for the future of Wayzata! Please join the conversation and take the Community Survey. This is a critical piece of the overall project and is a platform in which issues and topics can be highlighted and given due attention throughout the visioning process. So, please have your say and take the survey at www.wayzata.org/Wayzata2040.

Photo Contest Entry Deadline Extended

There's still time to submit your great photos showcasing everything Wayzata. It is very easy to do submit photos with the online form at wayzata.org/photocontest. The last day to up load your photos is October 22!

After the contest closes for entries, photos from all four categories will be complied into four albums for voting on by the public on the City's Facebook page to determine the winner of each category! First place winner of each of the four categories will win a gift card to the Wayzata Bar & Grill.

Commission, Authority or Boards Openings

The Wayzata City Council is seeking applicants to fill the vacancies on City of Wayzata Commissions, Authorities and Boards to begin in 2018. Position details and the application are posted at www.wayzata.org/CABapplication. Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. Interviews by the City Council will be held in November/December, with approval of appointments in November/December.

Wayzata School Board Election

The Wayzata School District will be presenting information about the school referendum at the October 3 Wayzata City Council meeting.

Absentee Voting for 2017 School Board Election begins September 22

Absentee voting for the November 7, 2017 School Board Election is available in person at school district offices (not at Wayzata City Hall) starting on September 22.
You no longer need a special reason to vote absentee or take advantage of early voting.

For in person absentee voting for Wayzata Residents in ISD #284:
All school district eligible voters, except those living in the City of Minnetonka (see below), can vote early in person at the School District Administration Building, 210 County Road 101 in Wayzata:
Monday-Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (September 22-November 3)
Saturday, November 4: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Monday, November 6: 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Minnetonka residents can vote early in person at Minnetonka City Hall, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd:

Pancake Breakfast

The Wayzata Fire Department held the third annual Pancake Breakfast on Sunday. Proceeds from this year's breakfast will benefit the Wayzata Police Officer Bill Mathews Memorial Fund. The pancake breakfast raised approximately $10,000 for the Officer Mathews Family. Thank you for your support!

Wayzata officers were back on patrol on September 18. Thanks to Hennepin County Sheriff Deputies for covering our calls last week, Minnetonka Police Records staff for police administrative duties, Plymouth Police for your assistance during the funeral and the Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA) for coordinating all the people and agencies who were involved in the funeral services. The outpouring of support during this time is very moving. Thank you everyone for your help during this difficult time.

Monster Mash for Mathews

Public Works/Engineering

Eastman Lane closure
The westbound lane of Eastman Lane will be closed on October 2^nd and 3^rd to allow CenterPoint Energy to abandon one of their facilities, located on the south side of the railroad tracks. A detour map for this closure can be found below.

2017 Street Improvement project
Paving of Hillside Drive and Glenbrook Road was completed on Friday, September 15. Final restoration should be finalized next week.

Street Striping
Main line street striping was completed on Friday, September 15.

County Road 112 Reconstruction – Long Lake
Hennepin County, along with their contractor, Eureka Construction, continue work on the reconstruction of County Road 112 (Old Highway 12) through Long Lake. This construction area extends from Willow Drive to Wolf Pointe Trail. The Wayzata Public Works Department would like to give a big “Thank you” to the City of Corcoran Public Works Department, Valley Rich, Inc. and Allied Paving for assisting in the preparation of the Summit Park Cemetery for Officer Bill Mathews. Their willingness to help Wayzata means so much and we couldn’t have completed everything without their assistance. Thank you!!!

Oktoberfest at the Landing
Engel Street, north of Lake Street, will be closed September 29 through October 1 for the Oktoberfest activities at the Landing Hotel.
